It's scary. It was already not doing well with Teddy and Dukakis, but it's unrecognizable to me some days.
It still is in some small pockets, but everyplace with 20k+ people is just a mob of self-loathing vacuous nonsense. Not to mention how many arrests are for their gun laws.
I have a buddy in Massachusetts “self loathing” describes basically his entire life. Yet somehow he believes he’s super smart and perceives the world more rationally than anyone.
He’s a never Trumper I thought there was hope for him but it disintegrated when he equated a Trump quote about his supporters at a rally being “courageous warriors” with a fascist uprising. I tried to explain that people tend to follow strong leaders and always have but he thinks “America isn’t supposed to work that way.”
So basically the guy hates America because it isn’t a Utopia for him to do everything he wants when he wants with little effort. He hates humans for their nature but instead of trying to put himself above it or understand it in modern or historical context he hates himself too.
I think part of the problem with the Bay State, we do have smart people, but they're over educated/indoctrinated. They rail against capitalism, but also seem the perfect audience for those rainbow-flag-signalling corporations. They fear Trump supporters and people like them but don't recognize that the overreach in this state is part of why rents so high, opportunities are so low, and people who have college degrees work hourly jobs to pay for apartments with 5 roommates.
We can say kumbaya all day but when you're subsidizing a whole city, maybe you've got bigger problems than a "fascist uprising" in the rear-view mirror.
Umm you described my old best buddy from Philly. A “down in the dumps” mentality that lives life like a sloth. Sad to see but these people won’t change. Move on.
Masshole here. We pretend to follow the gun laws, and police pretend to enforce them. There are oddball cases here and there, but not many good guys get jammed up for things like normal capacity (>10 round) magazines. Of course, there should be no laws relative to adults' use or ownership of guns.
I know Beacon Hill is packed with folks who'd like us all disarmed, would be nice if we could get GOA or other groups to lobby some reform anyway. Imagine surviving a dog attack just to be arrested for not filing a permit- while most town offices are closed.
Full quote for context, its from JFK in 1961. I have this printed on a t-shirt.
"For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence--on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day. It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations."
Of course he's from Massachusetts...

There is a city here, I'll leave unnamed, that has more than 50% of households on food-stamps (Excel file).

That is true, most stories I hear around here are some dumbass kid with his glovebox loaded with magazines cruising at 2am, but every now and again you hear bullshit stories like this too though- https://www.masslive.com/news/2020/06/woman-injured-by-attacking-dogs-arrested-on-gun-charges-after-shooting-and-killing-animal.html

"Infiltration instead of invasion."
