You should see the articles saying that regardless of what it says, they help. 🤯

The same people who decry your knowledge of science for not buying the FauXi bullshit.

But businesses will still make you wear it anyway.

Well ya the whole point is to reduce the amount of spread, not contraction.

People don't understand that and it still doesn't filter the actual virus going out either

I've read that it reduces incoming droplets by 2% and outgoing by 30%.

Sure, that doesn't filter the actual virus at all though.

The virus travels in droplets, it reduces the spread of droplets.

And the virus lives in the 70% of the droplets that aren't filtered. That's what he's saying.

Why you are making it seem like he's crazy is beyond me. Do you think these masks are magical COVID-19 masks that filter out only COVID-19 viruses?

No I think the masks reduce spread by a little bit. Instead of 100% droplet spread you are down to 70% spread.

My whole point being they are not about protecting the wearer of the mask, as OPs image seems to allege. Be informed.

Gotta ask. So you think it matters, that it's helpful to reduce the spread by 30%?

As an engineer, that kind of thinking seems so terribly unaware of physical reality. It's so hard to understand this "it helps a little so do it" mentality. What portion of virus-laden aerosols need to be blocked? It's not an easy question if you start thinking about it, and you'll find the number needs to be very high indeed.

No common, flimsy mask is going to help enough.

Whatever you say buddy.

The virus travels in aerosol which is moisture in air. If you can breath in the mask then that air you are inhaling/exhaling has virus in it. The mask stops droplets which can help prevent spreading in that regard but it still spreads from your breath.

Yes the virus also spreads in aerosols. Cloth masks reduce the spread of droplets.

Exactly. Virus (any virus) travels in spit/saliva/muscus, etc. BODY FLUIDS.

Masks absolutely do restrict spit from leaving your face. It's easy to test out, but people on this board would rather look like uneducated hillbillies.

Domt read this in a snarky tone, because I'm not trying to be snarky. These are genuine questions.

30% compared to what? Sneezing a cloud of spit like a savage? What is the increased efficacy of someone coughs or sneezes like a decent human being? What if I just sneeze into my shirt? Is this kind of mask better than that?

I enjoy reading research on this, and would love to see the 30% study. Genuinely. Not being a d-bag.
