He bought it from the Army Barracks base store... just a couple months before german pistols were banned from exported to the US. Army personnel were able to buy guns easily from the Army Barracks store. Most of the Walther TPs were in a higher calibur (.25 I think), and less than 500 of the .22lr version like I have made it to the US before the German export ban. This is the only thing I inherited from my father when he passed away, and I hope to be buried with this gun when my sunset happens.
If I could (I live in the People's Republic of New York), I would rock a Glock 19 or a Walther PPQ.
Very nice! How easy was it to get firearms in Germany back then? I know it used to be fairly common in Europe, especially in places like Britain.

I'm sorry for your loss friend. Keep her close, and don't let that TP go. Any other cool firearms that your Dad was able to get?
As a side note, I wish we could purchase imported firearms. There's a lot of cool foreign pieces that I can only dream of having.
