I've found a lot depends on your frame, your clothing, and what you're willing to tolerate. There's people that can carry a 1911 (it's relatively thin) and do fine. I don't want to dress around a gun, especially because that makes me less likely to carry one when I run to the store in workout clothes or something. I've found that a Walther TPH fits anywhere and is a great little gun, but it's a little too small for my jeans pockets so it'll rotate around and stuff so that's not great. It's also in 22LR which isn't 100% reliable.
A PPK fits in my pants pockets perfectly and magazines are easy to conceal as well. I tried out a friend's Glock 42 and it's also a good option imo, but it's about half an inch longer, which makes it a lot harder to squeeze into and pull out of a pocket; so pocket carry no longer is an option unless maybe I buy tacti-cool clothes specifically for it.
Try the Glock 42 and go from there. If it's too big, the PPK (not PPK/S) is a little smaller and offers the same capacity, but will be more expensive. Even smaller, you could go for something tiny like a seecamp or Ruger LCP II. If you want something larger, then there's tons of great options and as long as you buy from a good brand you should be fine.
