Yes, I thought about tape, but there are 2 colors right next to each other. I guess you could use narrow tape and just use it for both colors. The letter will be a bit jagged because of the underlying letters. Also it's hard to lay tape along a curved line.

Meh, doesn't need to be perfect, needs to be quick and effective!
You're right. Just needs to be legible.
Another plan would be to some how preprint/prepaint, DAD on a thin plate, and have some really good glue or something to cement it on there.
The problem would be getting it to stay. Rain, heat, cars driving over...
