Is there any collaborating evidence to show he was near the judge's house at the time of the shootings? Cellphone GPS and tower ping records? Any security camera footage at the judge's house or where they found the lawyer?
He botched the assassination. The judge was the primary target. He may have killed himself before his employees got to him. Might have found himself strapped to one of those torture chairs.
