I'm from the Bay Area (don't live there anymore). Most people are really not that bad at their core, they're just very ignorant and/or being lied to. They don't have any clear picture of what's actually going on because they're inundated with propaganda and one-sided narratives. They don't even know what red areas are actually like, they just buy into what their social circles say. In an increasing number of cases, people have to keep up appearances even if they know the left is full of shit or risk being ostracized or attacked as if they were conservative themselves (See: Berkeley).

Yes, there are "a lot" of people that are too far gone and won't respond to any amount of argumentation or evidence, but that group only seems large in absolute quantities and it's being amplified by news coverage. Percentage-wise, they're still fairly small. As I stated above, we have lots of people who have been defecting ever since the riots started. Becoming hostile to someone with an opposing view who is NOT identifiably one of the zealots/Communists is counter-productive. It's not even about optics, it's about recognizing opportunities to weaken the enemy's hold on a fellow American.

We all know about Yuri. He describes the progression in broad strokes but don't make the mistake of applying it to people in such broad strokes. Moreover, the nature of communications and the flow of information has changed drastically since 1984, so parts of his analysis or timeline may not be as relevant or severe. The situation is fluid and things are already starting to shift in our favor.
