Yup, giants kneeled yesterday. Take a look at the MLB instagram account too, if you want even more of a reason not to watch. No Fourth of July post, but near daily posts on BLM

I'll have to keep my 37 year streak going. My state has no professional teams so pro sportsball never really appealed to me. Now if my local high school kneels, I'll pull my scholarship money.

They need to be shown that this is a bad idea. Not just MLB, but all companies that do this. Picking the wrong side has consequences.

SpezDispenser 34 points ago +34 / -0

Instead of MLB staying out of it when players vocalized that baseball shouldnt be politicized, MLB rallied to the kneeling Giants defense.

Im legit done, if Manfred wasnt bad enough.

Ive spent hundreds if not well over a thousand bucks past couple seasons going to games. I truly appreciate all my money and time saved on watching this horse shit.

Guess I got more money to throw towards Uncle Dana and UFC.

Yeah I stopped playing fantasy sports back in 2016 and stopped watching sports at all by 2017 and I can’t tell you how liberating it has been to have all that time and attention and mental energy back. It truly feels like being freed from mental slavery. I didn’t even know I was trapped.

19
Trump2030 19 points ago +19 / -0

Awesome for you. I gave up watching sports after I joined the Army. After being in combat, professional athletes just looked like a bunch of bitches.

What's sad is the American people could name stats on some joggers freethow average from 10 years back before they can name one MOH recipient and what they did to get it.

Yep. I tried to watch the Cubs and Sox Sunday night, and it sucked. I might have been ok if I could have heard Len and JD, but the espn broadcast bored me to tears.

I was planning ti sign up (again) for MLB.tv... but this kneeling bullshit leaves a very VERY bad taste in my mouth.

16

Kneeling resides in the mlb? Hell no to watching that then.

12
BrownRugs 12 points ago +12 / -0

If the game is on ESPN, I mute the TV and listen to WCBS for the Mets. And sometimes I don’t even leave the TV on I just go straight for the radio broadcast.

8
the__rev 8 points ago +8 / -0

I tried to find a Chicago radio station with the Cubs broadcast so I could do that, but apparently there were none available for that game, for non MLB subscribers.

Someone on /r/chicubs said "the radio rights are owned by MLB. you have to go through the MLB at bat app for radio."

Most parks were like that before the pandemic. Its a silly boring game, sports fans are as brain dead are you can get, and this is coming from a guy who tattooed the seattle seahawks on his body, I know first hand.

7
CousinEddie 7 points ago +7 / -0

I’ve been to a few Cubs game when I lived in Chicago and never made it through an entire game at the stadium.

It’s insanely run down and uncomfortable. The seats are uncomfortable to sit in and the restrooms are some 3rd world shithole design.

Their “kitchens” and food options are garbage as well. I had a strong income so the pricing wasn’t unaffordable, but at $15/beer it was obnoxious as hell.

Usually Id go With a date during a weekday we took off in summers. Sit through to third or fourth inning (where I’ve now spent over $150 easily) then go to a local bar to eat better food and drink cheaper while we watched on tv.

If you’ve never been to wrigley the history will be fun for you. But after the first time you realize it’s all a scam. People say it’s cool to fit in, it’s honestly a decrepit money pit that fleeces fans very badly

3
the__rev 3 points ago +3 / -0

I believe you but I'd still like to go there once since I haven't been.

I did go to a spring training game at Sloan Park in February, and it's very nice (except the pricy beer).

32
TheJTimes 32 points ago +32 / -0

Can't believe MLB has been compromised now, too. America's past time is on twitter being disingenuous about this shit.

"It's not about disrespecting the anthem or flag." Then why are you kneeling during the anthem... while people salute the flag...?

If it wasn't about disrespecting the anthem and flag you'd all kneel together at the mound/half court/midfield after the anthem. You'd get just as much coverage and wouldn't come off as disrespectful lying pieces of shit.

18
South_Florida_Guy 18 points ago +18 / -0

Sniveling little millennial SJW's have infiltrated the the front offices of every highly public facing institution, or even more impactful, their "social media department", something that sprang into existence at every company everywhere all at once.

Positions in that department at these places are almost always given to the same type of whiny little purple haired cuck or feminist who use them as a platform to push their own political opinions and agendas and often encouraged to do so or at least not tempered in doing so.

I've always done a hard-eye roll whenever I saw companies that never had a "social media department" or "director of social media/marketing" gleefully announce when they do because I know what kind of brain dead SJW nonsense is coming next.

5
digital_daisy 5 points ago +5 / -0

Also, if you look at the student PR projects in these colleges, you'll perfectly understand why we're seeing such moronic decisions in the professional world.

At Syracuse University, I saw a student PR project regarding a lower class minority school that had high truancy and low retention rates. What was the proposed solution? More social media outreach from the school and more bus transportation. They also refused to bring attention to what the family makeup looked like for the students in this district. The one example they illustrated was a working/middle class nuclear family.

Does shitting on the flag bring anyone's dollars towards their coffers?

If only 1000 people tune out. Thats a 1000 that they'll have a hard time roping back in. Majority of their fans are older as well, who do you think would be more pissed and have the means to effect their bottom line? NO one needs pro sports, it's entertainment for boredom and placates the mind, be productive, spend quality time with the family, literally anything else than sit on your ass watching other people exercise a high levels.

After highschool and maybe college you've learned how to win and lose with grace and work hard. Done. Sports have their place in society but many people follow them in cultish manners. Wasting weekend after weekend. If not more

It's a free country and you have every right to but until we get shit back on track giving these unamerican MEGA "non essential" fucks any clicks, views, and or dollars is non sense.

be strong pedes.

Also i acknowledge everyone needs a little rest and relaxation, when needed time wasters are not time wasters... but i still think reading a book is more productive. but hey i watch some tv here and there and videogames once and awhile myself. time wasting luxuries either way though.

25
JackCovfefeHays 25 points ago +26 / -1

I understand where you’re coming from, but there was a time when our sports helped reaffirm the value of struggle, competition, hard work, overcoming odds. It was a positive cultural force. And a means of entertainment. I’m sad that it’s gone, but most major leagues have long since destroyed their value as role models. I’ve been done for a few years, but I still miss what it was...

8
2ScoopsMAGA 8 points ago +8 / -0

The olympics usually embody that but even those have become political. Maybe we can have gladiator matches again...

6
Pepega 6 points ago +6 / -0

Yeah, idk what it is, i played every sport under the sun practically, except hockey, and a few others... I wrestled from second grade until college and even fought MMA 6 times, love both sports... and back then or even now have no desire to WATCH either, all it does is make me want to DO it, not watch haha. Maybe I'm just selfish.

NuclearDreams 7 points ago +7 / -0

Sports are a huge cultural icon across the world. Sure it's time better spent to go out and do something productive but you even admit that people need some R&R once in awhile. Watching sports gives you necessary small talk when meeting with people where you can strike up a friendship based solely on liking the same team. Also if you're not involved in the sports world you will miss out on a lot of conversations.

I hate what's become of them but let's not pretend that vegging out in front of the couch and watching a game after a long day of work is a new practice. What's new is the 24/7 access to games, news, fantasy leagues, and information where everyone gets sucked in. You mention reading as more productive, but why not both? I'm a guy who needs background noise at all times and if I read I want something on the TV that I dont need to pay much attention to, so a game of baseball or basketball is perfect.

Sporting events also present human behavior and goals which exist in our instincts, but in a more public space. Competition, hard work, fighting for a cause, common ground, companionship, picking yourself up after failure, and so many more. It's important to society that people keep engaging in sports because it's a way to let off violence and other such behaviors without any chance of hurting someone. For millennia, man has turned to sports in order to live vicariously through the athletes involved. From the gladiators in Rome to Medieval jousting tournaments, to modern day NFL games.

Furthermore consider the plight of people who are not capable of being physically active. They can still the thrill of being involved in something through watching sports.

Sadly, because of everything I've said above, every league has become a huge target of SJW activists because they want to undermine our society. These are not real football or baseball fans who want to see social change; it's people who despise everything that sport represents and want to destroy it from the inside so that it can't be a "toxic" influence anymore.

At this point it's all over for any of the major leagues. No real hope for them and I don't think it will ever change until we have a social revolution and throw out all these wanna be communist despots who insist that race and gender should define everything about a person. It makes me sick to the stomach but I dont know what to do anymore. I've cut so many things out of my life because of their politics, but baseball and the MLB has been in my blood since I was a seven year old watching Braves games on TBS. It's hard to imagine a life without it and I cant decide if I would be more miserable watching it with the woke elements or if I would be more miserable trying to cut it out of my daily routine. I guess time will tell.

5
Pepega 5 points ago +5 / -0

I don't have a long reply but i want you to know I read it all and it gut checks me a little. I'll go a little easier on sports fanatics haha.

But that's definitely where we agree, the fanatics and 24hour access + artificial fluff like fantasy leagues is all a huge detriment.

Only other point is i get the idea of people who "can't" participate are not that common and ANY level of physical activity they can do they should. Hurdles, not excuses. Every, amputee, diabetic, blah blah blah's life could be improved by MORE physical activity, i know there are cases of genuine inability, but EVERYONE should do the most they can (without negatively affecting there health)

6
b9k9 6 points ago +6 / -0

Participatory sporting activities are experiencing unprecedented levels on engagement. The number of people hiking, biking, surfing - heck, even home improvement projects - is reflected in the best quarters ever recorded by segment vendors, suppliers and retail outlets. (Ever see the lines at Home Depot?)

More surfboards, wetsuits and general beach apparel have been sold in SoCal, Australia, FL and other surfing areas than at any previous time.

Try to find a bike - anywhere - I challenge you. I hadn't been in Wally since before CV, but was looking for a tarp. All bikes, gone. All tents, sleeping bags, gone. People are out and about, staying active.

4
Pepega 4 points ago +4 / -0

I did notice that, all my friends trying to get in on the mountain biking fun haha, i have three at my house ;)

And i think that's great! So much better for people than sitting around watching other people play sports and such a high level it leaves life long injuries and conditions... But as an athlete myself i get it from the pro athletes perspective... It's hard to be the rush and reward of hard work.

Remember - when the kneeling was going on, the NFL had to turn the cameras off the crowd because they were all standing and waving to stand up. Then the best part, all the fans booing the kneelers was so loud, the broadcast swapped/stopped audio. Then eventually they stopped showing the kneelers altogether.

"They stopped showing the kneelers" (Airplane movie mode activated)

The playoffs are resuming within the month, but usually they play between October and May.

2
MuadDon 2 points ago +2 / -0

Treat yourself with the playoffs coming Aug 1. Obviously it's gonna be different with no fans and the weirdness of covid, but still should be fun. There's absolutely nothing in sports like the NHL postseason.

The thing with hockey is it requires many more players than the other sports to play the game, so it's difficult for the players and the coaches and staff to get TOO political during the season, or worry about anything else really. There's just too much going on and too much to do. (Also, a lot of the players come from other countries, notably Canada and many Euro countries, so there isn't really a "this is a USA thing" vibe, which I think keeps politics chatter less relevant. Also you have a lot of players from Russia or Eastern Europe so they have a seemingly "clearer" vision of politics). The players are already are pushed to the brink schedule-wise and barely have enough time to fully recover between games, and they often will play back-to-backs and have to fly to one of the games. Match that with the parity in the league right now and you could be fighting for a spot in the playoffs 5 months before they happen. St. Louis was the worst team in hockey last year halfway through the season and they won the Stanley Cup. They went on an incredible run to achieve that, but there are 4-6 teams every year that absolutely could have made it in if they didn't bungle a stretch of ~5 games out of 82 at some point in the season. Hockey is basically like football and soccer combined. The game is almost exactly like soccer in terms of the field, player types, and object. The only real difference is the hockey "field" is a shrunk-down piece of ice and everyone is wearing padding and ice skates and using sticks instead of their legs. It's like football in that every moment of a hockey game is 100%. Unlike soccer where they can slow the game down to catch their breath or think, hockey is constantly in motion. Perfect hockey is 100% effort for 60 minutes. The only way this is possible is with lines shifting, which is why the game requires more players than average. Typically 45 seconds is the length of a shift, although this can vary slightly based on team structure/how they utilize their "all-stars." On top of all of that, the coaching staff is wielding their lines like a chess match against the other coaching staff. Package all of this up and you have the most high-octane, aggressive, physical, yet elegant and intelligent sport of any.

1
UpTrump 1 point ago +1 / -0

At least a few of the f1 drivers refused to kneel, and in the last race, the whole thing was a debacle.

They should force everyone of these black athletes that wants to throw their voice in with BLM and Farrakhan, and the rest of the loons, to go to middle of the field, get on microphone and tell all the white people in the audience how much they hate them. Any white person that stays in that stadium after that is a worthless sheep and deserves their fate.

It's like they're saying "FUCK YOU" to you face , then asking your to pay them (watch them).

Stop staring at grown men play a kids game, it makes you a bit of a faggot.

Telcontar2012 8 points ago +8 / -0

Yeah I'm saying goodbye to watching Formula One.

BLM shirts, kneeling on the grid for the anthem? Screw that noise. I'll start paying attention again when the virtue-signalling cucks have all retired.

I remember watching a documentary about the Minnesota Vikings and how Coach Bud Grant made the team practice the pre-game "ceremonies" in order to "get it right". One of those was how to stand during the National Anthem. He made each player tuck their helmet under the left arm/hand, and put their right hand on their heart.

No scratching your crotch, no spitting, no mopping around. You had to stand to attention and line up properly.

His logic was that if you couldn't be taught to do the basic things right then you'll never be able to learn how to the do the difficult things right, such as learn complex formations, be able to I.D. a formation pre-snap, how to audible to another play, etc...

He was patriotic. Here’s an article from 1985 where he was pissed that TV missed showing the Anthem!

BUD FLAGS ABC FOR UNPATRIOTIC CONDUCT Ed Sherman, Chicago Tribune CHICAGO TRIBUNE

Why bother staying for the game?

''I think the national anthem is the highlight of the game,'' said Minnesota Vikings` coach Bud Grant.

Grant was upset because ABC was not going to televise the singing of the anthem Thursday night. It was sung at 6:59 p.m., and the Viking-Bear game went on the air at 7 p.m.

The television audience missed the patriotic moment. The Viking cheerleaders carried American flags, and Grant and his team stood at attention to the delight of a cheering crowd.

It was such a shame they could never win a Super Bowl while he was coach but geez, what could they do ? They kept running into some of the most dominant teams in NFL history. (Although I think Super Bowl IV was one where they really should have won and on paper at least, I still think they were the "better" team over the Chiefs.)

BTW, if you want to watch that documentary, it was called "The missing rings: 1969 Minnesota Vikings". I know it is on YT. It is quite good, especially with Joe Kapp and his "I don't give a damn" attitude.

When pro athletes were able to compete in the Olympics I stoped. Now it’s to unbearable to even watch tv itself. Bought a boat, fish shoot and hunt. Fuck sitting in the recliner and watching punks attack my country.

1
BasedJaffa 1 point ago +1 / -0

I’m curious why you feel this way. Why wouldn’t we want the best of the best representing America at the olympics?

1
Truglow 1 point ago +1 / -0

Because at one time athletes that competed in the Olympics were considered amateur. Not as a put down but to emphasize the fact they weren't professional.
Everyone knew the east block country's at the time cheated thru drugs and professional athletes. The victorious amateurs were glorious and showed the world what determination brought. Now its a clown show of advertising and pros pushing down up and coming athletes. Showing my age I supose.

The first week of football is off the table for me. A black Bantu in anthem implies the national anthem isn’t for everyone, which I disagree, it’s just another way to shit on America. What next a woman’s anthem, or trans? Which protected group do they want to weaponize next.

I’m hoping after that first week of virtue signaling that NFL will be watchable again (I always have loved my Packers). NBA is pretty much beyond redemption at this point, I can’t imagine a situation where this protest bullshit isn’t shoved in my face. For sporting groups that have national in their title, they sure as hell hate our country and will bend over backwards to pander to China. It disgusts me.

People who care about sports are fucking losers - there I said it. I don't give a single fuck about any sports. Sports are for kids - when I see a group of adult sports fan all I see are children. Children who like to cosplay by dressing up as their favorite team and living vicariously through them. It amazes me fans actually think they have anything to do at all with the performance of their teams. People take so much pride in something they had nothing to do with at all. If these people put as much effort into themselves as their sports team this country would be a much better place.

LtPatterson 5 points ago +5 / -0

Fuck pro sports and their wokeness. Truly a bread and circus world.

SOLUTION: Don't watch. People used to read about sporting events... just sayin

GeauxTrump20 5 points ago +5 / -0

Hopefully all conservatives stop watching football baseball basketball NASCAR but, all the woke liberals soy will start watching football to keep the ratings going and then you’ll have a lot of woke in the audience to, so that sucks!

It's over. People who don't want to kneel in their hearts are being shamed into it or will be forced into or lose their jobs.

Or let's be honest with BLM willing to kill people now, just plain scared shitless.

I fucking hope not. Would suck to have to figure out how to cancel all of the bullshit I've been paying for even though there are no games.

3
KAG_Master 3 points ago +3 / -0

120 OTHER minutes in a game they can kneel, why do it during the national anthem? If America is so bad, then why dont they just leave? There's plenty of other countries with other political and economic philosophies they could try.

No Voter id, open season on whites, open season on churches, nothing combatting internet censorship, terrorist run free. But yeah let's worry about kneeling in sports.

I used to be a serious fan of F1, I watched the first race as I didn't know about them kneeling as I only turned on for the start. Heard about it after the race, now I' done with it totally.

I'm getting back in to UFC, until I see them start this kneeling shit, then that can go too.

3
JustACitizenWarrior 3 points ago +3 / -0

Save yourself the hassle, and just ditch the season now. I bet you'll be surprised at how much more productive you'll be post-LIVE-sports-slavery on sat/sun.

sincerely, someone with premo nfl season tix that has no plans to attend or watch any games this year

Being a Warriors fan I followed the NBA heavily, but since the lockdown, I don't miss basketball at all!

The half-baked "bubble" season is about to begin and I couldn't care less. I am done being an NBA fan it was always a waste of time and a shallow addiction. Sure I'll tune in just to see if they kneel. But if they kneel -- I will turn off the TV.

I also got really disillusioned by the Warriors coach talking politics, made me stop caring about whether they win or not. It is asinine for sports figures to spout off about politics. And he progressively became a worse and more unhinged coach, the more he talked about politics, until the Warriors started losing again. Now before you know it they're a gutter team, but who even cares about basketball anymore?

Steve Kerr was a pretty good player with the Cavs and Bulls and one of the best pure jump shooters I have seen but my God, he is a stuck up elitist snob prick.

2
TheMadManDidItAgain 2 points ago +2 / -0

I heard the Indians are NOT kneeling... instead, they put their hand on their hearts, and their arm around the player next to them.

I love that. Respects EVERYBODY, still let's them "stand up to injustice", let's them "express themselves", etc...

Really, it's a good move.

Somebody will probably blow it... some faggot.
