Not really as the south was bankrupt after the war. The slaves being freed did not contribute slave labor to the post war economic recovery after the war. Their labor at that point was paid at some level fair or not. The south was destroyed during g the war. Wiped out the fruits of that slave labor.
That is what I always think. Scandinavia came to N. That we must be punished, pay reparations, we must back down and abandon the country our ancestors came and settled, and came to love, and fought and died for and allow all that history be destroyed?
