My son's ex and I got in a big discussion about this. I finally unraveled the root problem: we had VERY different definitions of the word "racist".

I contend that "racist" means you judge a person, treat a person, based on their race (by which we usually mean skin color).

She contends that "racist" means exerting control or power over someone because of their race. Therefore, if a person perceives themselves to be a minority, then ANY control of them is by definition "racist"! Specifically, it exempts a minority race person, since they CANNOT by definition be "racist". Period.

Think about what that means. Something as simple as a stop sign is called a traffic control device. So it's racist to require a minority person to stop at one, since it is exerting control over them. ANY form of control over them is "racist". Literally, ANY form of social convention that constrains behavior in ANY way, is by this definition, RACIST.

That’s a major problem with modern academia - they teach the idea that only whites can be racist and that all “minorities” are blameless.

Yep, but these are the new guidelines that have to at least be given lip service to because it will enter the standardized tests; it will be looked for on syllabi; it will be in the textbooks; disciplinary guidelines will be revised to match up with restorative justice something, something. You have to go to training seminars about this shit and at least repeat back what they want to hear or else.

Welcome to my nightmare (welll, not any longer).

I’m a millennial and my friend that’s also a millennial tried to tell me we are the most educated age group in the history of our country. I couldn’t believe that because I always thought a vast majority of the country don’t end up going to college for a variety of reasons. I looked it up and millennials with a college education is around 50%, I couldn’t believe it. It makes soooo much sense now. Half our generation has been systematically brainwashed by the education system.

It's funny how dumb it is. If you tried to ask, for example, whether a "minority" could have power over someone else using a weapon like a knife (where the answer is obviously yes) they then leap to the clouds above and say, "not systemic power", while never being able to give a single example of what that actually looks like in practice.

It's just dumb. You can't reason with people who believe things this stupid, you just have to embarrass and ridicule them. They never engage in a legitimate debate, and never had any intention of doing so.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. If everything is racist, then nothing is racist.
