I understand your point. However, how far would she (or anyone) take this rationale?
It’s unnecessary to shoot up heroin to understand the potential addiction that could result.
The brain is imprinted by what is seen. Seems illogical to purposely view negatives that cannot be unseen.
Parenting involves nurturing & protecting along with teaching children to establish boundaries in their lives. This takes time & reinforcement. Using a negative visual to teach self-respect is lazy as well as disrespectful to the child.
Your second point: while I agree one cannot protect their children from exposure to negatives, I believe it’s foolish to push exposure to children, particularly in this instance.
Not a naive position, rather it is a natural tendency towards protecting children. It’s a sad indictment on her parenting if she could not come up with another way to explain this to her daughters.
Erring on the side of caution, would be preferable when one cannot guarantee the outcome on a child’s psyche.
It must have been disappointing for you to read my response.
I for one, don't require others to have the same opinion as me: I welcome alternate perspectives as I don't view them as threatening to mine. It's unnecessary to be dismissive of others that do not agree & doesn't serve to persuade them of your opinion.
You've also made assumptions in your response -- that I've not had to deal with issues such as these in parenting. You are wholly incorrect. As an older mother of adult children, I see life differently than her. Think: traditional versus "trendy".
"...Untenable ideal of parenting"?
No. Parenting involves an extreme sense of balance & sacrifice. The outcome is not guaranteed, but doing the best you can is not too high of a bar.
It was my responsibility to protect my children, instill values & educate them about life without immersing them in the muck. I disagree with the current concept of "parenting" as the outcome has been feral children, coddled & without self-imposed boundaries. This does not bode well for society.
Her stance was to view pornography with her teenage daughters in order to teach them the women were "performing" & I will assume, the objectification of women. My disagreement is that it's unnecessary to subject them to the visual in order to teach this.
Did you read the entire article? She sounds very confused...
For the record: Conceptual thinking --- basically thinking in the abstract & applying logic; following a general line of thinking & applying it to other concepts/topics.
You needn't reply; we merely have differences of perspective. Plus, your use of the word "babble" speaks volumes about you...
My, so much drama. Calm down.
I did not come here from Reddit.
Your assumptions are yours alone.
That you cannot / will not consider a different viewpoint for discussion is a very sad indictment of yourself.
As far as your opinion of me / blocking me: Rest assured - I truly do not care.

To your first point: Try conceptual thinking.
