The masks are overall worthless. Because surprise, people don't handle them appropriately. They give most people a false sense of security so they go about their business regularly and contaminate their mask, which typically is a cloth designer mask which does fuck-all to block viruses. In fact, the stupid ass cloth mask I have, I can feel my breath coming through the cloth. It also gets wet very fast and can harbor germs right there. People touch mask, then touch things and then virus is now spread.
The only mask worth using that is effective is N95. Even then, you still need to practice proper handling, including washing your hands often. (Pro-Tip: Most people don't).
Lastly, the longer people use masks the longer this disease cycle continues. Its basically delaying the inevitable. Most people think this is OK because they are relying on some grandiose idea that a "Vaccine" is going to save all of humanity from this scourge. Remember the narrative "15 days to slow the spread"? Yeah that was over 100 days ago. They moved the goal posts. It's a load of shit.
Nobody has an idea yet if a vaccine is going to be effective or its long term side effects, COVID could mutate and thus vaccine is rendered even less effective. Also, how long do you think it would take to vaccinate the entire country of 330 million people if you did a million a day?
If you guessed 330 days then yes you are correct. That's even taking into consideration the vaccine is taken by everyone. I bet you a good portion of people won't even touch that vaccine. Thus leaving gaps in the infection footprint. This is why masking and avoiding the virus is a bad idea for the general healthy public, including the young. Herd immunity is the only method in which viruses like this will be defeated. You can vaccinate the old and vulnerable, while you leave the young and healthy to do it naturally.
We're fucking ourselves by not having kids return to school and colleges. We are fucking ourselves by not opening the country and allowing the young adults to get back to work. Only old and vulnerable people should be masking and quarantining themselves.
In 2017-2018, Flu deaths were ~80,000. That's WITH a vaccine AND not even the hyper-sensitive reporting that COVID is getting. So in theory, that year's flu likely had COVID #'s, or could have attained. We as a country didn't do shit. No masks, no quarantine, no nothing. Hell people probably even went to work w/the damn virus.
COVID19 is little more than a severe flu/cold which is amplified in older people w/health issues. Of course like all diseases there are outliers; and of course the media will cream their panties all over those.
