Funny think... last of the new Star Wars movies I saw was the second. The one called.... Last Jedi or something.

The black guy, Finn, who was one of the few new characters to actually have a defining trait (cowardice) was also the only who to have a chance to complete his hero's arc. (In spite of his fear, he was prepared to sacrifice his life to save the remaining rebels.) If he did this, he would have absolutely completed his hero's journey. (Overcoming your flaw in order to succeed) and it would have been great.

Then the boring love interest saved his life for no particular reason except to keep him around for another movie, even though this doomed the rebellion. (Or at least, someone else had to make the big sacrifice instead of Finn)

They couldn't let the black guy be the big hero, I guess.

China wouldn't have appreciated it if they let him die a proper hero. Also, it would have been a man managing to accomplish something where all the tactical genius wahmens failed. Would have been unacceptable.

It was a perfect feminist movie. You had the women in charge. They never listen to the men. And they got nearly everybody killed. I mean.... true slice of life.

They did that with the Rebels cartoon, too. Hera gets everyone killed every time she leads a mission, and gets a promotion for it. She loses a hilariously large amount of priceless resources and they reward her every time. She's utterly incompetent.
