Posted in another thread:

Left months ago. The city was never paradise. But a decade ago it was The Nice Metro on the west coast. Reasonable housing. Mild weather. Low crime. Decent jobs. Shall issue. No sales tax. Weekly events in central downtown. Fairs, expos, markets, etc. Bum and panhandlers sure, but never swarms of them.

10 years later downtown is literally a warzone with hundreds of bums/addicts camped on businesses doorways. Rent has tripled, taxes higher than ever but infrastructure is crumbling, and the government has steadily grown from hippie libertarians to full blown commie apologists.

Head for total collapse and I'm so glad I get to watch from a distance.

I'm kind of serious- do you think the attention that the series Portlandia kind of fucked up the city? I understand it was supposed to be satire- but I don't think many of the people who watched it were in on the joke.

It was happening before the show. That is how the show got inspired to mock the absurdity in the first place. It's been a grunge/degenerate haven for a long time. The only thing that's changed is the violence. Before it was harmless hippy weirdo junkies.

The constant stream of orange man bad and woke degenerate propaganda is really warping people's minds.

Mexicola1976 5 points ago +5 / -0

I was there in 2007 and it wasn't bad- I loved the rest of Oregon (although there was a serious meth epidemic). I seriously wanted to live there-- I still have a dream of retiring there, because I like seasons. The South is great and all, but the fucking heat is a real PITA.

6
KuhlooKuhlay 6 points ago +7 / -1

It normalized it to an extent. I know I was pissed as a local having two people from out of town make that show because it totally lacked nuance and a narrative voice of reason. I mean the two main people on the show were the exact type of people who deserve the mocking and scorn they were dishing out IMO.

It kind of gave all of these woke people an out to be like "see look, we're not that bad. we're not like those people" but then of course they went along with all of it each step of the way and naturally most of them were that way.

It was actually a show for all the transplants and other liberals from major liberal cities and had nothing to do with Portland itself. People who are from here aren't actually like that for the most part.

A tactical retreat is wise. You’ll consider yourself lucky when the sleeping giant in this country awakens and your not stuck behind enemy lines.

Please remember not all of us can leave.

A_Triggered_NPC 10 points ago +10 / -0

Ultimately, you most likely can. I’m in Commiefornia having the same struggle, it’s taken me a long time but I’ve finally put the plan together for me to get the fuck out. Good luck pede. If your still behind enemy lines make sure your waiving the pepe flag and we’ll try to rescue you

My wife is the roadblock. She sees the issue with all the gender nonsense but can't see the issue with blm because it's so well designed as a cover for antifa/communism. She even admits antifa are fascists, but is mad the feds are doing anything. She is basically apolitical, only reads headlines, and does not want to discuss anything. She's smart, on point, and normally this isn't an issue... but when your city is literally falling apart it becomes an issue.

1
UnwaveringDefiance 1 point ago +1 / -0

That sounds like a dear friend of mine. We’ve been friends since middle school but lately she has fed into the bullshit and has been motivated more by her skin color than facts. She posts ig stories about defund the police and pro Antifa/BLM. It’s sad. She hasn’t unfollowed me but I’m sure she filtered me out because all I do on ig anymore is repost from here.

1
Freebird 1 point ago +1 / -0

I think it's common among apolitical 'default liberals'. If something really catches their eye, and they research, they redpill. But as long as they only read headlines, it is orange man bad, america is racist, cops hunt black people nonsense.

The few times I've gotten into it with them, it's nearly impossible to have a conversation. They don't even know who Flynn is, or Steele, or FISA, or anything else, and they are absolutely unwilling to listen to even a 1 minute summary. Same with intersectionalism, or the roots of antifa, or pretty much any other aspect of this culture war.

I make progress by starting strong and retreating. Like, regarding gender, I will point out natural born women will no long break records or get scholarships, and then simply stay as quiet as possible to avoid argument since they have no interest in actual debate.

Don't feel bad. Think of it as voting with your feet. It is the only way to force the city to change. Losing people = Losing money.

Word of advice to you, Lot: Don't look back on the wicked city that you fled.

1

Yeah. Don't become a pillar of salt like Lot's wife did. In West VA you'd just attract deer to lick you on a daily basis. Don't look back.

The left wanted to portray the BLM "protests" as just a small area near the courthouse and the rest of the city was unaffected. I find it hard to believe that that level of DAILY violence won't effect the rest of the city.

Were the riots really on that one area or did it spread thought the city? I can imagine the threat of them spreading or moving was a quality of life issue for many.

thisisatestof2 6 points ago +6 / -0

Thanks. Just what I expected. Looks like it was a nice area with access to nearby outdoor hiking and recreation however, sandwiched between Univ of Portland and Portland Community College and maybe 5-7 miles form the courthouse/downtown means the issues have started to spread.

Portland is divided up into sections - downtown, North, Northeast, SE, etc.

Most of the city is very suburbs like. Almost everything going on is in parts of downtown, and some North. So it's true that it is very localized, but still, you can't go 2 or 3 houses anywhere without seeing blm signage, and putting up an American flag would be a sign of bravery.

And homeless encampments [3-5 tents] are becoming commonplace under any bridges, some church parking lots, along highways, etc. That started maybe 3 years ago and has been getting worse.

3
thisisatestof2 3 points ago +3 / -0

Is is crapping on the street in daylight light like in SF bad yet?

3
Freebird 3 points ago +3 / -0

Thankfully no. But I did have a naked guy get out of a tent a few blocks from my house while i was walking with my daughter. Thankfully that tent went away and didn't multiply.

Homelessness has definitely massively increased over the last 4 years. Antifa too. Likely related.

3
thisisatestof2 3 points ago +3 / -0

I've heard Portland had/has a large youth runaway or homeless problem, but never could find any official word.

8
RBailey82nd 8 points ago +8 / -0

Nobody likes change. Its natural, and to think you were practically forced out isnt making it easier. You'll be fine just keep your head up.

when i visited Portland and saw the amount of "blm" signs in gardens (where everyone is white) i knew the ratio of shit human was too high for me

I have lived in Portland before, never long but I am very familiar with the city. It got really bad before the riots. The homeless were getting angry and violent. Lots of drugs, lots of stupid NPC's, just a sense of dread and impending doom. I got out just in time to avoid COVID. I couldn't imagine being there with the riots. Stay safe and God bless Fren!

6
Kaarous 6 points ago +6 / -0

Is stepping out of the way of a rockslide being a quitter? Hell no, it's self preservation. Don't be down on yourself for it, I've done the same myself. At some point it just becomes impossible to live among that kind of insanity any longer and still say sane yourself.

5
lavendarlady 5 points ago +5 / -0

REJOICE !! you took the way out of that. REJOICE that you were able to save yourself as smart people do. Yes, you could have stood your ground but you would have likely ended up in a body bag, spit on and stomped on by a manic crowd. Be thankful every day that you had a safe haven . Enjoy your quiet and solitude and forget the guilt. That's just "Stinkin' Thinkin"

I grew up in Oregon. The Dalles was once attacked by that crazy Indian cult in the 80's. They poisoned the town to try and influence the election. The goal was to have their candidates take over the county leadership. After their commune failed, I'm pretty sure a lot of the hippies ended up in my school district and influenced the retards that ruined Portland for you. Oregon has been lost for a long time, don't feel like a quitter. You need to be safe and happy, and Portland isn't going to foster that at this time in history. Godspeed Portland 'pede

I felt the same way leaving Arizona. You only have one life, enjoy it. You can not change what is happening. Just like I could not stop the massive Ca migration or wide open Mexican illegal immigration in Az. I thought to myself I am trapped in a valley with no water, 110+ degree heat and 6 million people. I could see no way to fix that without leaving. What are you supposed to do? Arm up and go take out Antifa? That is exactly what they are hoping for someone to do. You will be written about in the history books as the white supremacist Trump supporter who made it clear whites were evil racists. Enjoy your new life in WV. I know I'm 100% more happy in my new location. Good luck.

3
RatioInvictus 3 points ago +3 / -0

Last one to leave call the arty in on your position; Portland is over-run.

3
KuhlooKuhlay 3 points ago +3 / -0

No need to apologize. You weren't born here so it's not like it's home to you or anything. We will beat these evil fuckers in the end.

My only question is.... is there any way you can register and vote in nearby PA or OH? WV is pretty much locked up at the moment for Trump.
