This woman is in the process of bottoming-out. Notice that she's a bunch of "former" things, and now she's hitting the skids as a "community college instructor". Among academics, this is the equivalent of a manual laborer: she'd have to schlep around to several such colleges and teach a 10-course load to make even a semblance of a living. The average university professor teaches between 2-4 courses per semester, depending on whether it's a 'research', or a 'teaching'-institution. She's looking to fill the empty pits in her life with activism.
Gotta have something to fill the void when you're a post-wall woman who missed her chance to attract a decent man and have a family. One night stands from Tinder, boxed wine, and re watching Gilmore Girls can only be stretched so far.

That whole first paragraph was cringeworthy, but the 2nd was tasty. Is it just me or does they way she uses "blacks and browns" seem pretty racist to anyone else? I imagine a woman standing around thinking "ok, let's do this, first let me find a black, oh there's one, ok now a brown, hmmm, that one looks mexican lets talk to her".
