Like gratitude and rational thought, dignity is a concept wholly unknown to leftists

Locked safely in a cage like a dog, they don't need freedom as long as they are GIVEN things

They are the recipient class, the takers of this world. The selfish.

And they project their selfishness onto us, as though we were the selfish ones. Kek

Give me liberty or give me death

71
Ragnar_Danneskjold 71 points ago +74 / -3

I wish more people felt that way. Even right here on TDW.

Too often it's "Give me liberty or give me death...unless it means I have to miss a day of work cause then I could lose my job which means I won't make my mortgage payment and I might have to move my family out of our house into an apartment in a different neighborhood while I look for another job and we might have to sell the second car and a few of my nine AR-15s I never plan on actually using to defend my liberty, and that sounds like a whole lot of hassle and I worked hard for this house and all these comforts and possessions and I really need the healthcare plan my job gives me so I guess I'm ok with losing some of my liberty piece by piece so long as my day to day life appears to be more or less the same for now. I'll just make sure I vote in a rigged election this November and post spicy memes. That's basically the same as being willing to die for liberty right?"

46
Work2gethrBiglyOrDie 46 points ago +47 / -1

5
300BLK 5 points ago +5 / -0

Fuck their signs. Walmart and the rest of them can eat a dick. I got plenty of options. My little local grocery chain doesn't have the thought police waiting to check me for my temp and make sure my mask is sufficient. I'll not go back until they rescind the mandatory mask baloney. My cows and horses don't give a good goddamn if I wear one and I rather be around them than 99.9% of people in walmart anyways.

6
Pepe 6 points ago +11 / -5

I spoke somewhat to this yesterday in a different post: For me (and likely many others), the situation will have to become much worse before I am willing to put my life, and the well-being of my family, on the line.

You gotta pick the hill you want to die on... I haven't seen mine yet.

14
Ragnar_Danneskjold 14 points ago +16 / -2

A lot of us are going to find that hill ends up being the very last hill and we've been entirely surrounded and there is no hope of victory and that our last chance at actually winning was when we were saying "it's not time yet".

Yup. Ask me to wear a mask to help my fellow citizens and I'll wear it more often. Force me under penalty of fine/prison and I'll wear it as little as possible. Just enough to not be fined/arrested.

43
billiejoebandit 43 points ago +43 / -0

Ask me to wear a SPECIFIC type/level mask with hard data proving its efficacy and usefulness to protect those around me as well as myself and I'll happily strap that puppy on every day.

Demand I wear ANY kind of covering under penalty in the absence of data and logic and... well... you have our current situation.

13
Wyopepe 13 points ago +14 / -1

This is the correct answer.

For as much as leftists like to throw out the word science, plenty of their decisions and perceptions skirt around data and logic.

I’d wear a mask if the data supported it. It doesn’t seem to at this point, so I won’t.

4
Wtf_socialismreally 4 points ago +5 / -1

It's called scientific activism and it is based on emotions rather than fact, and if they make their intentions out to be good then it attracts all kinds of support, propelled further by the paid mainstream media.

1
Wyopepe 1 point ago +1 / -0

Agreed.

It’s a sick loop of disinformation and the resulting reaction, generally labeled as science or being progressive.

Show me the data, rather than your appeal to emotion and influence and let me decide for myself.

10
CashMAGA 10 points ago +10 / -0

In response to our mayor's mask mandate, I have a friend who has decided to wear a plague doctor mask; something that is ridiculous and that we know has no effect in stopping disease, but 100% meets the requirements of the mask order.

Is it absolutely ridiculous? Yes. Buuuut it keeps her out of trouble, and it drives the point home to everyone around her that she knows this is ridiculous.

3
NoMoreLies 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yep, just wear an old Halloween mask. When you live in Clown World, every day is Halloween! 🤡

(I recommend also wearing the classic Guy Fawkes mask)

1
The_Almighty_Kek 1 point ago +1 / -0

I've been wanting to buy one of those! I've been trying to decide whether to just get the mask alone, or buy the whole getup (cloak, hat, etc)

It would be fun to walk around Walmart slowly without acknowledging anybody.

2
Wtf_socialismreally 2 points ago +2 / -0

I suspect a lot of people on our side would wear masks more often if they weren't trying to force us and shame us at every turn, not to mention blatant hypocrisies in abundance.

3
littleman 3 points ago +3 / -0

That's a fair take. I'll do it voluntarily to help someone else who's more afraid to feel better. If it's someone I know well, I'll try and educate them.

But threaten me with prison unless I do what you say? Then I start standing up for my rights. I wish I was strong enough to get arrested and challenge the local orders on Constitutional grounds, but I don't have spare tens of thousands of dollars to fight a long court case.

7
spezisacuckold 7 points ago +7 / -0

A large part of the problem is the mask mob trying shame anyone that follows the science which says they don’t really do anything when outside.

6
RighteousViolence1 6 points ago +6 / -0

I’m ashamed to admit I wore a mask the other day...

I was dealing with a mold issue in the basement and wanted to be safe.

15
Ragnar_Danneskjold 15 points ago +17 / -2

I wear a mask at work when I'm required because I entered an employment contact with them. They pay me and I do what they say. They can already make me wear a hard hat, body armor, safety goggles, a reflective vest, etc. They can throw a useless mask on top of that and I'll jump through those hoops because I voluntarily agreed to do so in exchange for money. But I'm not wearing that shit if you're not paying me to do so.

2
Awilen 2 points ago +2 / -0

As long as you respect and don't degrade yourself if your boss asks you to "because he pays you", this makes sense. Otherwise that's being a wageslave.

11
spezisacuckold 11 points ago +11 / -0

That’s my biggest gripe in all of this. We already have the right to keep our businesses open. Literally government’s entire job is just to protect our rights. That’s it. If we don’t want government protection, why must we close? We can defend ourselves if we want. If people attack us and we forgo government protection, then we should not be able to rely on government courts to redress damages.

2
Awilen 2 points ago +2 / -0

government’s entire job is just to protect our rights

Allow me to respectfully disagree and/or be nitpicky.

The job of government is to recognize citizens have God-given rights it can't infringe on or face replacement, violent or otherwise, and help the citizens who's rights are infringed upon by other entities, foreign and domestic (other citizens, businesses, terrorists, states, you name it.) Its job is to put on the books the rules of society so that citizens can refer to those written rules and seek justice in the event their rights are infringed on.

On the contrary, I think it's the job of citizens to protect their rights against anyone who would infringe on them (including government), and petition the government for help in protecting them through the justice system.

HBO is a really bipolar film/tv enterprise. On one hand, they've been censoring movies and made the godawful woke Watchmen series. Braveheart is like 90% fiction, FYI. They just took the high level story and names and made it Hollywoodised

8
Magistra 8 points ago +8 / -0

Yeah, but one of the great things about homeschooling is you can use cultural happenings and historical fiction (where I would place Wallace) to teach ethics, history, character, etc. as long as your guide/mentor/parent/teacher gives right interpretation. Think of the old times, when the prince had a tutor, such as Doctor Cornelius in Prince Caspian

0
koyima 0 points ago +1 / -1

they conflated things that happened to 2 people into 1 and created a couple of love stories to make the motivations easier to understand for anyone watching the movie with zero knowledge of the actual history. it is really tough to condense stuff for a movie or any medium besides books, I am doing something similar at the moment and I have altered the motivations of the main antagonist a second time because even though they were better before, the underlying story is too convoluted to present - there are other constraints than accuracy when you are making a product that people will consume in specific manner, in 1,5 to 2 hours etc

I used to hate what Hollywood did to real stories, but as I get more and more into the work of storytelling I understand the need to simplify and condense in order to make the story more compelling... if you want history read books

Equality**

**Of opportunity, not of outcome

2
Throwawaycuzmeh 2 points ago +3 / -1

Many opportunities are outcomes.

When parents scrimp and save to send their child to college, that opportunity was purchased with hard work and discipline. Turning around and giving that same opportunity to another child for free because his or her parents were lazy, undisciplined losers isn’t equality. It’s communism.

“Equality of opportunity” is a Trojan horse. Reasonable access to an acceptable quality of life is the only acceptable goal.

silflay 12 points ago +12 / -0

I see so many of these brainless twats putting the word freedom in quotations like this. It’s infuriating.

5
VoidWanderer 5 points ago +5 / -0

That's because that is how women are wired mentally. Safety and security at the expense of freedom. Trading submission to a man for protection and resources is how women survived, it's literally baked into their psychology as a survival mechanism and governments the world over know this and exploit it.

I also fully understand I'm going to get women around here going, "but I'M not like that. I don't want to give up freedom in exchange for safety!" You already did if you are actually a conservative woman and follow the "stay at home and take care of the house and kids while my husband works and supports our family" mindset. Even if you both work, if you defer to him and let him make the majority of the decisions and control things like the family finances you still are doing it. That's why it was so easy for you to slip into that roll. There's nothing wrong with that, you just have to realize that other women want to trade your husband's freedom for "security" which will take away your safety and security as they destroy society.

5
silflay 5 points ago +5 / -0

You’re right, and I understand that about women. I often think, “this is why men are better suited for policy making, tough decisions.” It still sounds sexist to me since that’s what I’ve been conditioned with for decades.

I really don’t think it is, though. Men and women have different but equally important strengths. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

3
Sporadica 3 points ago +3 / -0

control things like the family finances

This is less true. Women control the overwhelming majority of dollars spent from family households in the west. Men are so passive it's sad. Women often decide what house is bought when house shopping (for most families this is the largest spending decision they'll make). Cars purchased by families are marketed towards women (SUVs and Minivans), designed for women (moms, really), and ultimately bought by women.

It's amazing. Men are instinctively more pragmatic. Aesthetics and status matter less when your concerns of survival are adequate commuting from school/work/extracuricculars so as long as those baseline requirements are met, the women take the helm from there.

Women control the overwhelming majority of dollars spent from family households in the west.

There is a difference between spending money and managing the finances of the household. There was a story recently about a kid that managed to spend something like 20k on streamers that the parents are unable to get back. Is the child managing that houses finances or did he spend money and now the ones actually responsible for the finances are left trying to figure out how to patch things up?

The same is true of families in the west. The vast majority of women suck at managing money, but spend it like they're democrats handing out ballots. They then look to their husbands, boyfriends, and the random "guy friends" single women keep around just for that purpose to bail them out of the hole the woman got into. For the most part the men do by taking extra shifts, or getting a second job, or opening up another credit card. These same men then get told by their wives and girlfriends that he "can't" buy things he wants because "they don't have the money" because SHE needs the money to spend on stupid and pointless things.

"My money is my money, but his money is our money."

I wonder if the quotes mean "This word is very hard to appropriate, unlike other words like racism and discrimination. So let's just belittle its meaning entirely."

Exactly what it is. Anytime they approach an argument they can't attempt to counter they come to insults and belittling.

Freedom is safety

7
SimpSlayer 7 points ago +7 / -0

Freedom allows one to look after their own safety. Less freedom and more "safety" has never anded well for the ones losing freedom for safety. Freedom allows us to tell others to fuck off with their ideas of what is "safety" if those ideas are either inadequate or, worse, infringing on us. Freedom allows us to act on that so we can take our safety in to our own hands using our freedom.

That is why freedom AND The Second Amendment work very well together - it keeps the snakeoil salesmen and carpetbaggers who promise us safety at the cost of freedom away from us.

So a giant "FUCK YES!!!" to the question because freedom actually leads to safety.

Sporadica 1 point ago +1 / -0

Surprisingly many people don't actually want freedom. It's hard to understand at first but a lot of people are weak and just not capable of handling freedom. Because freedom requires responsibility. It's easier for some people just to be taken care of as long as you listen to whoever pulls the chains. We've all seen those brown nosers at work who suck up to the new boss the moment the old one is gone. No loyalty, only to money.

Apparently a ton of irrational women are living in a constant state of fear. Hate to generalize and sound sexist, cause I know there are a ton of based women on here, but it is women who are driving a lot of this horseshit.

4
VoidWanderer 4 points ago +4 / -0

I know some people around here hate the idea of a topic like this, but Evolutionary Psychology lays out a lot of uncomfortable truths about why humans behave like they do. (Some will understand that it goes along with the "God is a watchmaker not a parent" concept and see it for what it is) Women especially have a lot of issues as a result of being weaker and unable to survive without men supporting them. Easily lying and innately knowing how to manipulate to avoid being cast out of the group and dying, moving on from a relationship exceedingly fast to make sure they maintain resource acquisition, giving up freedom for safety and security, etc are all hardwired into the psychology of women because those things meant survival even just a century ago. Men are different in our innate nature but in other ways that are no less upsetting.

It's not nice and it hurts a lot of women's feelings to have things like that presented so bluntly. Society has done everything possible to cover up truths in the past century that we've known for many millennia and are spelled out in texts like the Bible because someone ignorant is easier to manipulate and control than someone with knowledge.

Just like how we're supposed to comply with and enjoy wearing masks - the people making the decisions/mandates hate you with every fibre of their being and would happily see you suffocate through a mask or a welded door.

Also by pointing to Scandinavian Socialism which has worked really for 15 years until around 5 years ago. Having socialism that works really well is really hard when you import people who dont work, and just keep raising taxes because the government officials are corrupt and sell our country out to the EU and China, while the working man has to foot the bill for everyone.

These fucking retarded politicians proved that socialism dont even work in rich countries with endless natural resources because POLITICIANS are ALWAYS corrupt.

I'm a liberal (as in freedom and not socialist/sjw) purely to protect myself from the government because they always end up corrupt. Not because socialism dont work, it could've worked really well in Norway because we are low population and got a shitton of natural resources so we could eliminate taxes and use only export tax to fund everything, but because our politicians are corrupt and piss and steal our money away, it dont work. Norway is literally the only country I think it could work in if we had smart and good people running our country, and that is purely because we are a small country with a shitton of natural resources. We could finance all our social programs by export tax only

Cardinalix 3 points ago +4 / -1

Why is freedom in quotes? Does she think freedom isn't real?

4
lerm4comptroller 4 points ago +4 / -0

Many Americans today think "freedom" is like how the Europeans use the word: essentially just laws that can be overturned or overruled. Remember how they had "freedom of speech" for so many years, and now they don't? That's their understanding of the word.

As far as I can tell, the idea that we're all endowed with the same natural rights by our creator is too close to religious thinking, so verboten throughout the left. Also it would sound a lot like shitting on Europe for pretending to be like us while continuing to suck like always, also verboten to the left. So they threw away John Locke and the concept of negative rights entirely.

The real problem is that these are your kids teachers that we're talking about, so this is what's being taught in schools. So yeah, she probably was straight up taught by the American education system that freedom isn't real.

1
Cardinalix 1 point ago +2 / -1

Well put. Liberty is no longer a birthright. It must be fought for and reestablished in the hearts of our children before it can be reestablished in our government.

1
Sporadica 1 point ago +1 / -0

just laws that can be overturned or overruled

lmao in Canada it seems so staggering to explain to people that "I don't give a shit what's written on paper". Like so so many people just can't wrap their heads around the concept that a bunch of British boot lickers wearing suits in a building 150yrs ago (or more so 40yrs ago) write a "constitution" and then people just sit back and say "well the constitution says we can suspend rights in 'reasonable' situations". No. I don't give a shit, you can't just 'suspend' rights without a proper trial for a specific crime comitted by a specific person.

Lawyers are honestly some of the worst for this. Teachers too. This idea that the system is correct so what the system says is the norm and it's ok. I don't give a shit about the constitution of my country, it's meaningless words as far as I'm concerned.
