Not to say there aren't good reasons for someone being a single parent. But what is the %? I'd say the vast majority of single parents is due to bad choices of the single parent. People make mistakes, sure. But let's not ignore the majority may not deserve a second chance or for someone else to take on the burden of taking care of a child that isn't theirs.
Man, is it gonna blow your mind when you learn about adoption and foster care. Being a parent is a privilege, not a burden.
It isn't the same as adoption. The father can't suddenly come into your life wanting partial custody or visitation rights to your step-child. The father can't suddenly influence the child or find ways to make life more difficult for you and your loved one.
I want children myself. I know they aren't a burden. Personally I wouldn't want to take a chance with a woman that already showed she wasn't careful enough to not have a child with someone she should not have.

I just think we ought to hold single parents accountable for the (more than likely) terrible choice they made because of the very negative consequence it has for the child and broader society. How would you feel finding out the reason you didn't grow up without a father at all was due to your mother being immature, irresponsible, and careless about her child's future by having a baby with a man who will leave.
If it was truly a privilege, we would be devoid of half the issues on this subject.
Having kids is a likely biological outcome of copulation. How you raise or tend that child will make you feel as if it is a burden or privilege depending on how you take that new responsibility.
Id ay kids are a responsibility, and like with any such, the outcome hinges on how you fufill it.
Someone not responsible enough to begin that responsibility responsibly, is a risky bet to take on.
Someone who made an irresponsible decision at 18 is definitely the same person when they're 30, good point. There is no value in ever having hard lessons in life, all hardships do nothing to produce character and shape future behavior. /s
