Yeah people fail to read the fine print about these "free" tests. NOTHING is free. Where are the labs? Who owns the genetic material? What could be done with the genetic makeup of a broad spectrum of humans? Small amounts of DNA can be "amplified" or grown and subjected to all kinds of research. Always been wary of these things.

Plus you are essentially entering your DNA into a government searchable database

I was always leery of this. Maybe it’s because I’m getting more mature.

DNA tests were always the arena of police and crime fighters. Suddenly, they come to your house so you can find out if you’re “really Dutch”. That is ripe for abuse by private and public resources.

Privacy issues aside, I didn’t like the messaging. These companies openly market themselves as sources that will rewrite your family history. You thought you were Dutch, because your great grandfather came from Holland. Turns out, he was more Romanian than anything else.

Isn’t your family history, the way your learned it and loved it, more important than percentages in a pie chart could ever offer?

Maybe I’m reading too much into it. But I see it as an attempt to force you to disassociate from your identity. Nothing rocks you to your core more than waking up realizing your identity is a “lie.”

It’s all programming.

Why should I be afraid? I have stellar genes.
