I do have a job but it's far from a dream, but we really need my income. Thankfully I can work from home (even before all this virus BS) and my mom helps me with my kid. If I couldn't do that, I'd quit. Fuck daycare.

There is nothing discriminatory about suburbs existing without high-density complexes in them. If you can afford to buy a home in the suburbs, no realtor will deny selling to you. I have neighbors of all colors and backgrounds in my suburb, and they're all respectable, hard-working Americans who make decent money. Some of them, myself included, worked our way up until we were able to move here to escape some of the bullshit of the city. I used to earn $8 an hour and live in a shitty apartment downtown. But I worked hard. Now I'm fortunate enough to have a much better job that allows me the freedom to live in a quiet suburb.
The guy a few houses down from me attends my church - he (legally of course) immigrated from Guatemala about 20 years ago, started as a janitor at his company, paid his way through school, and now he's a production supervisor making great money. Imagine telling him that the same people he set himself apart from - his former peers who never hustled anywhere near as hard as him - could now move into the same neighborhood, just down the street. I can't imagine that he'd be too happy to hear that. Is meritocracy dying in the United States?

I resisted masks as long as I could. Then my state mandated them and required businesses enforce the rule (no mask, no service). I need groceries. People talk about giving store employees shit when they make them wear a mask, but that's nothing to be proud of. Employees are just doing their job and businesses don't want to be fined. This pisses me off so bad. I live in a rural area but in the "city".I bought a house here because it was a good neighborhood and I had older neighbors that kept their property up. A few years ago they put in an apartment building at the end of our street. They filled it with drug dealers and assholes. I've called the cops several times because of people partying and one time because I heard a guy beating on his old lady. It's been an absolute nightmare and I'm thinking of moving.
