He was only a Democrat during the GW Bush years. He has been a registered Republican for far longer, both before and since. Far too much was made out of his brief period as a registered Democrat, especially by NeverTrump Republicans.

Even the 1980s version was still American. The current version is communist and aligned more closely with China than America.

There's a crap ton of MAGA Democrats in the rust belt area of the US. I always seem to end up standing next to them in line for rallies in PA/OH.
