Alcohol, tobacco, and firearms are what made America great in the days of the Founding Fathers. I'm serious when I say that we need to return to those roots.

No, no, and yes. Just because it covaried with it doesn’t mean it was the cause. The toughness and “you gotta do what you gotta do” is more what was at the heart of it. Wide-spread Christian values helped too

So this is all just my personal assertion, but there's a correlation between the decline in tobacco use and the decline in intellectualism and increase in PC culture in America. The shift started in the 1960's, specifically 1964, and this also coincides with communist-motivated attacks on American culture.

There's also been a similar but less apparent shift in the American drinking culture since from the 60's on.

Take it or leave it, but it's really interesting how those three factors track in American history.
