I can buy a chinese camping stove for 25 maple bucks. There are no maple companies making stoves so next alternative is a stove out of MSR from Seattle (shithole, but still better than China) but it's over twice the price!
Trying to source an ultralite kit that isn't made in China, might just have to make my own.
You might be happier with the results. I'm a fan of my fancy feast alcohol stove. It's much lighter than any canister stove that I know of. I'd guess about half of my gear is diy stuff. It's cheaper and you get the satisfaction of making it yourself.
Liquid alcohol I assume? Have you ever used solid fuel burners? I didn't really notice them until browsing MEC stove inventory and it looks kind of cool.
The esbit tablet stoves? I have, but it's been a long while. From what I recall they did a fair job cooking, but much slower than a canister stove (alcohol is also slower). They leave a ton of soot and residue on your pot. The tablets have a strong odor.
The alcohol stove can run on any liquid with a high alcohol concentration. Fuel is available at basically every has station in the form of fuel de-icer.
It's hard pede.
