So, I dont know where to ask, so I'll start here.
Before the Gillette SJW move, our local Kmart was closing and I got a bunch of mach3 blades for cheap. I'm on my last blade now and I'm looking for a new razor. I'm looking for recommendations from my fellow pedes
Requirements:
- non-SJW / BLM obviously
- must remove hair from face
Prefer:
- made in USA
- purchase from local stores
- 1,2 or 3 blades
- not too expensive
- if possible, created from concentrated liberal tears
Also needing a shaving cream or soap
Safety razor is the easiest way to go. Check out https://wetshavingclub.com/ , they put the country of origin on every product they sell. They don't put USA at #1 on their "human liberty index", but I don't disagree because we definitely have way more government overreach than we used to. With all of Trump's deregulation, there's still a LOT to go. (What I do disagree with is putting New Zealand at #1... like, that place where everyone was forced to turn in their guns literally overnight? But I digress).
I've personally bought from Maggard Razors. I don't see any BLM from them so I'm glad I bought from them in the past (and today).
Blades on the other hand I don't think anyone is making in the USA. I buy Dorco blades (S. Korea) online for home use and for travel use I can always count on finding a pack of Personna blades in the local Walgreens. Even local purchases are pretty cheap, and each blade is good for like 2 or 3 shaves.
You'll also need shaving soap and a brush. Don't use that chemical goop out of a can (although it will work in a pinch). Wet shaving works best with real soap, thankfully all countries have representation here and there's enough variety to get something that works (and smells) right for you. I like Proraso which is Italian and doesn't help you, but there are plenty of US makes. The Brits make good soaps, too. For the brush, badger is the way to go.I use an Art of Shaving brush (which I do not recommend because it's now owned by Gillette and it was most certainly made in China) but I've had it for maybe 20 years now and I'm not keen of just throwing shit away that still works. Most natural brushes are, unfortunately, made in China because it's cheap to kill animals when you don't care about humane ways of putting them down.
One thing to keep in mind is that you'll be learning a new way to shave. There is no give to these things, and those spring loaded monstrosities like the Mach 3 train men to shave with pressure that will just cut your face up with a safety razor. Expect some learning time to know when your soap is sufficiently lathered, the grain of your beard, and a more deliberate and thoughtful shaving technique.
