There are a few types of people who will still watch. Those with significant financial involvement (sports bars, etc) or those whose close friends are significantly financially involved. There are those who addicted to sports. Much like meth or opioids. These people are probably the largest subgroup and there are no doubt even some here.
What's worse is that they're doing it by essentially disabling the "comments" section. That of course being the ability to have fans rain boos down upon them. Anyone trying to convince me that ALL of this wasn't planned, the CCP Virus overreaction (which included no fans at sporting events where they pull all this garbage unchallenged) combined with the rioters/B(L)M, is full of crap.
The goal is to remove all enjoyment from people's lives and they're succeeding. They've long ago destroyed TV and movies, which also served as a common thread between even those who disagreed politically. By turning TV/movies political that thread has been severed.
Now the goal is to destroy the next common thread: Spectator sports. I know there are a few people in here that don't get it, but not everyone views athletes as "idols." They see sports as escapist fare just as some viewed TV and movies. Now that's being taken away.
The fraudulent shutdown forced the closing of parks and beaches and other places people would go to relax and have fun with their families. During Memorial Day and Independence Day, two holidays where people would enjoy those resources (that they pay for by the way.) Now knowing they were successful doing it once, they'll do it again...perhaps permanently.
This is the goal. Create a society filled with anger and animosity and no place to escape. It won't work for everyone, but it will sure work on a LOT of people.

I love watching sports to get away from the usual garbage, and if that's still possible with a sport then I'll watch it. Otherwise, even if the team is my favorite, I'll just cheer the results but not watch it.
