Yep. I've seen worse. You could use a threadbare jockstrap and it would be ok. Hell I've seen someone use one of those dollar store party hats you know the ones shaped like a cone.
It will. The masks are security theater. There is no standard as to what is or isnt an acceptable mask, any cloth over your mouth works.

Unfortunately I do. I live right off a busy sidewalk and you would be shocked how many people I see wearing them walking or driving, alone too.

I'm thinking about scotch taping a tissue to the bridge of my nose and just letting it dangle over my face...for safety.
