Ammo is more expensive, more kick, heavier gun, smaller magazine capacity.

You can fit 30 rounds in a pistol with 22lr. Mag capacity isn't everything.

If you have to fire more rounds that's also more opportunities to jam.

For a first gun 9mm is a good choice. Cheaper to practice with.
