US deaths from corona are very unreliable. I bet if you compared deaths from all the other normal causes they are all down and transferred to corona while overall deaths are about the same or lower to pre-corona levels
Truth is they did shut down, it just wasn't government mandated. Mostly elderly deaths though. Their results suggest that how you protect the elderly has a bigger impact on your success.
Death rate per capita in Sweden is slightly higher than entire US as a whole at this point. But they are way less than New York per capita. We are adding many deaths in states like Cali. Subtract out the over reported death counts and who knows where we are.
We should have done nothing, except to tell older and more vulnerable people to stay in lockdown. But keep the country moving forward. There was no reason to do what we did.

If the NY area hadn’t screwed up with nursing homes. We’d had even fewer deaths.
