Don't know the voracity "SPEZ: veracity" of it, but some people are trying to claim that the rifleman was trying to shoot out the tires of the vehicle.

If that's the case, he's even more doubly retarded cause he gave cause for the return fire without even endangering the driver...

Right. I don't believe the "excuse me sir while I shoot shoot out your tires I mean you no personal harm" will work for a prosecutor.

Self-defense.

Well, Garret's dead so he won't have to worry about that line of questioning and we (the taxpayers) won't have to pay for it. XD

It doesn't in Texas. You have the castle doctrine which includes your car.

This sounds like the most plausible explanation. He probably thought he was being a hero and stopping the bad guys. Little did he know he employed lethal force against armed citizens, who responded in kind. If he knew anything about self defense laws he probably wouldn't be out there with a rifle participating in unlawful obstruction of traffic in the first place.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

In interviews earlier the same day (even the same hour apparently), the dead man bragged about how he was bullying the 'pussy normies' by carrying his AK in the protest and 'he could do anything and no one would stop him'.

Basically, he got what he fucking deserved.

When you say deserved, I wouldn't go as far as to say he deserved to die. If you mean he deserved to experience the consequences of his actions and decisions then I agree.

The latter. It's just the chance of lethal repercussions of his actions tends to guarantee the prior.
