Slap? More like a gentle kiss. $21 out of $280 is nothing.

That, that's down payment on a small house or a decent used car. Damn that's more than some people's gross income. That is absurd.

Pfft, those are rookie numbers. I pay $10k in tax per month to CA & Fed.

Wait until its 40% on gains in the stock market then the next year you lose and they do not give back what they took and only allow a max of 3k loss.

Government is the worst gang of thieves on the planet.

$1000 to the town, $3000 to the county. Just to keep what I own. Fortunately there's no state tax here.

5
Former_RM2 5 points ago +5 / -0

Less than $300/yr for an acre and 1200sq foot.

1
Mexicola1976 1 point ago +1 / -0

You live on Hoth or something?

2
Former_RM2 2 points ago +2 / -0

Suburb of a major city in the Southeast.

Edit: I should be more clear. I actually live in the county, one street over from the suburb's city limits. Even still, the suburb doesn't have much higher taxes, maybe an extra $100.

3

That's such bs.

Income tax and property tax are unjustified taxation. Imagine contributing to the economy but STILL has to pay extra.

14
Parcus 14 points ago +19 / -5

But it's voluntary. And if you work hard, you can be the master.

38
Cameron 38 points ago +38 / -0

You sure about that? Businesses pay taxes, landowners pay property taxes. I made a boatload of money investing and got ass raped in taxes.
Win at a casino - taxes
Lottery winner - taxes
Create your own business - taxes

No matter what it is or how you measure or create your own success, the government gets a cut. The house always wins. And they spend it like dogshit and pay their crony friends then have the audacity to tell us we should pay more taxes.

Fuck that shit

A buddy of mine flips houses. He does almost all the work himself. Flips 8-10 houses a year and makes about 25-30k on each house. He has 7 rentals as well. Started out with 90k in the bank he saved up working as a machinist. His net worth is now $1M+ and he's only been doing it for five years. That's his max though with his current business plan. If he wants to do more houses, he's gonna need a crew, which he doesn't want to do. This year, even with corona, he's still going to be well over 200k.

6
iouybiy 6 points ago +6 / -0

That's a pretty good gig for sure if you have the skills and tools.

2
Former_RM2 2 points ago +2 / -0

You can still make good money with no skills, you just need a big bank to start it off with, and some contacts. Finding wholesale priced houses is what separates the amateurs from the beginners. Depending on the area, 100k could make you 15k in two months if you find a good house and hire the work out.

If I knew this young man, I would sit him down and remind him that more important than the money from the first job is the sense of self-respect and discipline gained. That when his 'friends' on social media brag about not working and brag about the thug life and attack him and call him an oreo and all those other ignorant and hateful terms that hard working americans who happen to be black are called: "keep your head up young man, you are on the right track". Don't worry about those who seek to drag you down, surround yourself with people that lift you up. And if you just turned 18, spend an afternoon with a recruiter you may find something that is truly rewarding.

8
StrongHarm 8 points ago +8 / -0

Amen and amen! Chin up! The military is a great start, too.. There was no color (from any direction) when I was in.. and that was a long time ago. A man is a man, and you're judged on your merit as a man. And the best thing is that they'll help you become a man of honor.. if you so choose to be one.

Sad thing though.. America is like that anyway. For every phantom racist they say exists in this country, there are millions of good men. I don't see people judging skin color.. but I do see them judging thugs. These aren't race wars.. they're culture wars. It's confusing times our media is creating.

3
wiombims 3 points ago +3 / -0

Good thing you went in a long time ago. Now they're teaching recruits that the American flag is oppressive and their commander in chief is a racist twinkie.

4
StrongHarm 4 points ago +4 / -0

I have one son in the Army and another who works for a Conservative PAC. They both hold the same opinions. I know a Command SgtMaj who belongs to Oathkeepers. He says that his men go through the 'sensitivity' training that was developed during the Obama admin, but his men take it all with humor and a grain of salt. They know who bought them all the new equipment, gave them 5 raises, and visits their brothers at Walter Reed without the cameras. Have faith.. this country is still predominately populated with good men. The commie wretches you're seeing on TV are < 1%.

27
Luthien13 27 points ago +27 / -0

I remember that first check too. Such a slap in the face. Income tax is unconstitutional. They only started implementing it in times of war to help fund the war. Normalized it, got people used to it, never let a good crisis go to waste. We’re frogs 🐸 and they’re slowly boiling us.

2
CaliPede24601 2 points ago +2 / -0

Bingo, normalization. That’s the number one reason Dems and RINOs will fight tooth and nail against any kind of tax holiday... Peons would wake up and start asking to many questions.

22
Pedeville 22 points ago +22 / -0

Well,

-> record low black unemployment

-> blm rioting

All these people just mad coz they saw the taxes on their first paycheck. I remember being 18 and got my first check from my summer job (worked a lot of weekends) got like 4k $ for a month of work (shitton of money as a teenager), then the next month I got a lot less coz I paid taxes (In norway the first 5k$ you make is tax free or smth). Thats when I realize the system is unfair and that needs to change

When I have kids I already know what I'm gonna do. Charge them "rent" at a cheap rate a month and then leave that money in a separate account.

Whenbit comes time to make a big purchase for them like a car or a trip they wanna take, I pull from there and some from me.

The most responsible person I know paid his parent rent since he was 16. Now this guy is all paid off and living the life he wants

2
wiombims 2 points ago +2 / -0

LIke it or not that money gets spent no matter what. The poorer you are the closer to 25% of your income. The richer you are, the closer to that magical financial advisor recommended 10% of your income. You might as well be their landlord because there's no way they're going to save up enough money to become their own landlord before 28. Sometimes you didn't do a good enough job raising your kids and you have to let their high liability self spread their wings and grind. It's such a great opportunity to teach them about tax structure, how selling your primary residence is one of the only times uncle sam DOESN'T put his hand down your trousers, filing for improvements and capital repairs, etc. It's a tragedy when you can't pass on these skills to your kids. People talk about how marriage, not having bastards and college education are they predictors for your income but I think knowing the ins and outs of home ownership are the predictors for whether you'll have anything left of your income to actually use or your savings account will consist of starbucks coupons. Can you sell your car tax-free? I think not. The govt let you file for depreciation for anything you own? Try again. Think your bank account is insured past 200k? Keep dreaming. Can you mow somebody's lawn and not pay taxes over 200$? Yeah right! Kids need to get wise on this before they collect that first paycheck.

Payroll tax

Income tax

Property tax

Sales tax

Four bites on the same dollar

Would it surprise you to know the US government spends half of the gross national product? Half.

7
linereddit 7 points ago +7 / -0

Twenty-some years ago, I worked it out that two-thirds of every dollar that goes into DC never comes back out. Not as infrastructure, education, disaster relief, military, medicare, social security, or any other identifiable, tangible public expenditure. The money is often reported to have been spent on such things, but nearly all of it goes to bureaucratic salaries and other overheads, usually related to compliance with self-imposed social engineering initiatives. The "Assistant Director for Diversity" kind of crap.

(Thus my sentiments toward public employee unions.)

I don't know what the current ratio is. I doubt it has improved.

4
BTFO 4 points ago +4 / -0

We need more studies on this. The theft and slavery known as taxes drives me insane. I can't believe citizens ever allowed it to happen. Now that government is so overly bloated, how do we go back?

8
RuPaw 8 points ago +8 / -0

About 10% on taxes? This guy is damn lucky to live in the US of A. You know how much he would have to pay in Europe?

5
StrongHarm 5 points ago +5 / -0

In the United States of America, we don't just take what we can get.. we get what we deserve.. and you can take that both ways. My taxes went from 34% to 23% because I voted for Donald J. Trump. My care as a disabled vet went from nothing to humbling because I voted for Donald J. Trump. We The People!

2
RuPaw 2 points ago +2 / -0

In Europe, most people are sheeple because - without much resistance - they hand over most of what they earn to the government for redistribution. The sad thing about it is that elections don‘t matter much. The choice is between big government socialists (and theit communist Green brothers) and big government conservatives. I envy you!

1
StrongHarm 1 point ago +1 / -0

Visit your local American Consulate and apply for a visa. The media makes it seem hard to become an American, but it's not true.. it's just hard to become an American illegally (thank you 45!). When you talk to the suit at the consulate, flash your pede card!

1
RuPaw 1 point ago +1 / -0

I had the Greencard for more than 10 years and worked in New York during that time. I love the USA. But I had to return to my ageing parents and my daughter. It was complicated.

Here is the reason why I care about YOUR election: If you guys go socialist, then there is no hope left for the rest of us. The world needs America. There is a reason why most inventions and most cultural trends come from your country. Socialism doesn’t produce outstanding results. Socialism punishes extraordinary ingenuity. A world without the American spirit is poor and boring.

I said it already and I say it again: I love your country. I owe you guys a lot. If I could, Give them Democrats hell in November. May God bless you.

2
StrongHarm 2 points ago +2 / -0

Wait until you calculate what you will receive in SS. Assuming I retire at the typical age of 67 and live to the typical male life span in the US of 78, I will receive EXACTLY the money I put in to SS. Not adjusted for inflation. THE EXACT DOLLAR VALUE.

I could literally make more money putting that SS tax in a no risk 0.5% savings account. not 5%, half of one percent.

SS is a fucking joke.

Self employed. No company to pay half my taxes. I literally have to go out and buy thousands of dollars worth of "things" for my business every year so I don't get completely screwed on taxes. I am starting to run out of things I need, or can possibly justify as business related.
