Hispanic isn't an ethnicity, though we pretend it is because otherwise we'd have to acknowledge that South America has just as complicated and contentious a history as North America's, which would bring up inconvenient issues within the American political context (like that AOC and Jorge Ramos are just was white as I am).

Hispanic actually just means native Spanish speaking. So AOC and most Brazilians are not Hispanic.

I actually had to look it up, but apparently native Portuguese speakers are called Lusophones. Just wanted to share it; thought you might find it interesting.

They're all just BS, essentially. That's why the terms for basically every other language (Anglophone for English, Francophone for French, etc.) all fell into disuse: they're not actually very helpful, and tend to create weird ideas in idiots that it means more than it does.
