I knew a guy who taught ESL in Taiwan. His mother gave him a "black" name even though he was your basic honkie-cracker type. He attributed his inability to get a job in the U.S. to that, said companies didn't even call him back.
Personally I think it was because he was a lazy piece of shit. Minimal high-school education, didn't go to college. Taiwan requires a college degree to teach ESL, so he faked one using Photoshop.
