And then I got berated for that, and told to quit trying to help. WTF.
Then i take that kind of advice and try to be more competent and appear more competent in things I really actually am not and don't have interest in or talent in, and I get told I need to stop trying to be competitive.

Growing up in the 90's and 2000's, I was told by every cultural influence that finally everyone was playing by the same rules. Until the last century or so, human existence, for those not wealthy, had been pretty shitty. Men and women were trying to survive in a harsh world. That is why gender roles developed, as it would make life easier.

There is a reason that as the middle class started to develop in the late 1800s, that we started to see more about "rights" and such. As life got easier, you could then begin to focus on things that you didnt care about before.
Women biologically are simply not designed to be fully independent from men simply because they all have the drive to have children and raise those children. Having a strong man that can protect the family from harm and provide resources to the family simply provides peace of mind to a woman with children. Prior to child bearing, women are constantly looking to build a nest. Unless the woman is very successful (lawyer, doctor, high-paid professional) then it is very hard to build a nest without a man and even then, how is a single woman going to balance her demanding career while also raising a child?

My Grandmothers family was sharecroppers during the depression, when a Tuberculosis outbreak killed her father, and the forced her mother into quarantine... she had to raise all 6 of her siblings and had to harvest the crops. She was a extremely tough, independent woman who also married a strong willed WW2 vet.

Our culture changed- with social media creating the ultimate competition regarding what constitutes winning at life. Big house, high paying career and expensive vacations became more important than spending time with family. Everyone is looking to score competition points and outdo people on social media that they barely know. They can't relax and appreciate family, friends and a life that isn't perceived as lucrative or exciting.

News flash almost all woman are unhappy. My wife has been a stay at home mom for 2 years. She was tired of working and missed the kids. After several attempts to get a job that could support us, I went to get my CDL-A. It was hard, with her working still and me going to classes 4 days a week. Alot of shuffling kids around to grandma and grandpas house. Landed a job driving truck and will be making $30 an hour next year and im working 45-55 hours a week. Great insurance and benefits. My wife used to complain about money and missing the kids. She now complains im gone to much and I dont do enough on the weekend to help her and do projects. Women will ALWAYS have something to complain about. Im happy were i am though. Much better to be the provider then to be the stay at home dad with no money of my own. Doing what the wife and kids tell me and if im not perfect the wife would come home and tell me what i did wrong and be a pissed off bitch. Work is now my break from the endless wants and desires of my wife and kids.

It's in their nature. Women were not biologically able to provide for or protect themselves, and still couldn't even today without society being intentionally designed the way it is. They had to rely on men. Men can reach a point where we're content and happy, and we are capable of going out and hunting in the dead of winter if our food gets a little low so we don't go crazy about resources as they do. Women nag because of that. They're always in "crisis" mode and cannot ever be happy for prolonged periods of time, or even content, because that meant death. There's a reason the joke, "what do women want? More." is always correct. There cannot ever be "enough" resources because growing too content meant death.
It's why when everything seems to be going great in life, a woman sometimes just flips out and intentionally create drama because they cannot mentally handle it when there's nothing wrong as it makes THEM feel like something's wrong. It's why you see women on the internet making comments like, "everything's going great but I just can't help but feel like there's something wrong." When you are hardwired to crave resources for survival and enough is never enough because of that, you are going to always find something to be upset about because YOU always feel upset and afraid.

Exactly. This is this sort of relationship I saw with my parents. My dad was a saint who sacrificed every part of his being to make my mom happy. And it was never enough. On the other hand, I see abusive and negligent husbands with wives who are fiercely devoted and affectionate. I struggled with this paradox growing up. I concluded that men are the ones that need to set healthy boundaries or else the relationship is out of balance - leading to resentment, no matter how ‘nice’ of a husband you are.

You really shouldn't bother, dude. Marriage is simply not beneficial from a man's standpoint, especially in this day and age. Forty percent of all first marriages (give or take) end in divorce, and the odds of separation increase with each subsequent marriage. I've also seen studies indicating that women initiate about 70 percent of all divorces. Not to mention, the judicial system often will not protect you in such situations, due to no-fault divorce laws and the courts' prevalent bias against men and fathers.
In my view, you'd likely be better off just avoiding the marriage ordeal altogether, and instead working to improve your own life. You could probably achieve more personal fulfillment as a single man than you could with a woman who may not fully appreciate you or your efforts anyway.
I divorced my wife 5 years ago because she was crazy...no kids, and fortunately she was cheap so didn’t want to hire lawyers to divorce-rape me. I was lucky enough to settle things amicably. Wow,what a thread. I don't know what its like to be male and raised by a single mother. I am however a girl raised by a single mother. She wasn't very domesticated, didn't have any handyman skills, and would rather stick a needle in her eye than ask a man for help. When i was a teen I had to learn how to do the things she couldn't. I can keep house, fix my plumbing, do electrical work, and my car if it breaks down. I learned this stuff out of necessity. Unfortunately, it was very unsettling to men i dated in the past. I have been accused of dick envy and trying to compete with men. Been told i was too independent. It was a no win situation for me in the dating world. In college some of my technical classes i was the only female and it was obvious that i was not welcome there. Being raised by a single parent shapes your adult life. Through experience and observations I've noticed that people from single parent homes don't have lasting relationships with people from 2 parent homes. If a man treats a woman the same way he expects to be treated, two things will happen. The woman will think he's not interested at all, and the man will be eternally frustrated.
Growing up in the 90's and 2000's, I was told by every cultural influence that finally everyone was playing by the same rules. I thought that sounded nice, but there's no evidence that women actually want that. Men and women should give each other their all, in different yet complementary ways. That's how we're wired, and it's the only way a relationship adds up to more than the sum of its parts.

My Grandmothers family was sharecroppers during the depression, when a Tuberculosis outbreak killed her father, and the forced her mother into quarantine... she had to raise all 6 of her siblings and had to harvest the crops. She was a extremely tough, independent woman who also married a strong willed WW2 vet.

News flash almost all woman are unhappy. My wife has been a stay at home mom for 2 years. She was tired of working and missed the kids. After several attempts to get a job that could support us, I went to get my CDL-A. It was hard, with her working still and me going to classes 4 days a week. Alot of shuffling kids around to grandma and grandpas house. Landed a job driving truck and will be making $30 an hour next year and im working 45-55 hours a week. Great insurance and benefits. My wife used to complain about money and missing the kids. She now complains im gone to much and I dont do enough on the weekend to help her and do projects. Women will ALWAYS have something to complain about. Im happy were i am though. Much better to be the provider then to be the stay at home dad with no money of my own. Doing what the wife and kids tell me and if im not perfect the wife would come home and tell me what i did wrong and be a pissed off bitch. Work is now my break from the endless wants and desires of my wife and kids.
It's in their nature. Women were not biologically able to provide for or protect themselves, and still couldn't even today without society being intentionally designed the way it is. They had to rely on men. Men can reach a point where we're content and happy, and we are capable of going out and hunting in the dead of winter if our food gets a little low so we don't go crazy about resources as they do. Women nag because of that. They're always in "crisis" mode and cannot ever be happy for prolonged periods of time, or even content, because that meant death. There's a reason the joke, "what do women want? More." is always correct. There cannot ever be "enough" resources because growing too content meant death.
It's why when everything seems to be going great in life, a woman sometimes just flips out and intentionally create drama because they cannot mentally handle it when there's nothing wrong as it makes THEM feel like something's wrong. It's why you see women on the internet making comments like, "everything's going great but I just can't help but feel like there's something wrong." When you are hardwired to crave resources for survival and enough is never enough because of that, you are going to always find something to be upset about because YOU always feel upset and afraid.

Exactly. This is this sort of relationship I saw with my parents. My dad was a saint who sacrificed every part of his being to make my mom happy. And it was never enough. On the other hand, I see abusive and negligent husbands with wives who are fiercely devoted and affectionate. I struggled with this paradox growing up. I concluded that men are the ones that need to set healthy boundaries or else the relationship is out of balance - leading to resentment, no matter how ‘nice’ of a husband you are.
I mean, I agree that’s a big part of it but there’s a little more to the equation. Women want safety and stability too. Otherwise they’d hop on Tinder at the first sign of disappointment.
You really shouldn't bother, dude. Marriage is simply not beneficial from a man's standpoint, especially in this day and age. Forty percent of all first marriages (give or take) end in divorce, and the odds of separation increase with each subsequent marriage. I've also seen studies indicating that women initiate about 70 percent of all divorces. Not to mention, the judicial system often will not protect you in such situations, due to no-fault divorce laws and the courts' prevalent bias against men and fathers.
In my view, you'd likely be better off just avoiding the marriage ordeal altogether, and instead working to improve your own life. You could probably achieve more personal fulfillment as a single man than you could with a woman who may not fully appreciate you or your efforts anyway.
I divorced my wife 5 years ago because she was crazy...no kids, and fortunately she was cheap so didn’t want to hire lawyers to divorce-rape me. I was lucky enough to settle things amicably. That’s when I learned how fucked up the divorce system is against men, though. I will never legally marry again.

I've never been married myself, but I've read plenty of anecdotes online about men who found themselves in miserable marriages and later got screwed over in divorce court. Those types of stories, therefore, have made me pretty skeptical about committing to anyone. I have little interest in putting my assets on the line for what essentially amounts to a coin flip in terms of a marriage's success rate. Personally, I like the freedom that I have now.

Wow,what a thread. I don't know what its like to be male and raised by a single mother. I am however a girl raised by a single mother. She wasn't very domesticated, didn't have any handyman skills, and would rather stick a needle in her eye than ask a man for help. When i was a teen I had to learn how to do the things she couldn't. I can keep house, fix my plumbing, do electrical work, and my car if it breaks down. I learned this stuff out of necessity. Unfortunately, it was very unsettling to men i dated in the past. I have been accused of dick envy and trying to compete with men. Been told i was too independent. It was a no win situation for me in the dating world. In college some of my technical classes i was the only female and it was obvious that i was not welcome there. Being raised by a single parent shapes your adult life. Through experience and observations I've noticed that people from single parent homes don't have lasting relationships with people from 2 parent homes. We are raised so differently that it makes us incompatible. This pattern will persist until we're able to break the cycle of single parenthood.
