I want to start getting paid to smoke meat so bad...
I love grilling and it's so much better than the bbq spots in my area.
Good for you OP. I also yearn to be free of the mask once again.
I have a friend who is a minister that does bbq on the side. He started doing a big cook about once a month and used our kids school and his church network to sell it. Now he does it about once a week. He does pre-orders starting a week in advance up to the morning before when he buys all the meat. He also does parties.
We all support him of course, but the truth is we buy from him because his bbq is so good.
Thank you. That's a really good idea. I'm going to screenshot this for later. I have a rack of St. Louis ribs going at 225 right now. I'm sitting on the fence about buying a gravity fed masterbuilt grill. That has a big enough capacity that I could smoke a lot of meat.
Pre orders smokey pede. If there are many in your neighborhood/areas of influence that would love to have your smoked meat once a month or more, let them know you are looking at upgrading your current rig & are trying to gage the steady demand for it before deciding on a specific model. Let them know this depends on how many people want to pick up a monthly order or an order every other week. Be sure to ask if they we be interested in a recurring order & if they would commit to it for a year to help make sure you are able to pay off this new investment. This will also help those who believe in you get excited about investing in your success.
This drums up repeat business with those already interested & gets the word out. Some might even ask if they can get it weekly.
Now make sure you are not badgering them, it is more a friendly idea you are tossing around tk decide if upgrading is worth it as far as the conversation goes. The last thing friends need in a forced economic stand down is to feel like a buddy is asking them to commit to a payment when they are worried about their own family's ability to eat. So this is simply a fun idea you are trying to get some help fleshing out as it were.
I hope this helps. I am sure there are a number of business consultant pedes & small business owner pedes that can offer up better advice in the food industry.
Always attempt to go in a place without a mask. You would be surprised how few people make it an issue, and if they do, make fun of them for their mask, ask them for proof that it is approved by the fda for preventing Covid transmission. Print out business cards with faucis statement that masks dont work, and hand them one.
This is an easy one! See if you can team up with local events or even just get a business to let you sell right in their parking lot on the street. Let the food do the advertising for you!
Purchase all the fancy cooking tools you need, like grills, dishes, etc. Buy a truck to haul it all around. Use all of that to begin a rental BBQ service. Have a website where people can submit payment, fill in their address, food they want, whether or not they will supply food, etc. Check each area before going there so you can avoid areas where you might get robbed for your equipment, just ignore those requests. When the business gets big enough, hire a programmer to make an App or just have an app by itself from the beginning. Your app would need to be restricted to your local area so you don't get overwhelmed with requests then bombed negative reviews due to no service. Same for a website, make it local only until you're ready to expand.
Worst case scenario: You have a new truck and a new grill you can use with family and friends.
I'm in my third summer being a landscaper and i should have started 10 years ago...
I LOVE that I just get up and go make people's places look nice.
I listen to books and podcasts and music. Nobody tells me what to do. My clients love me. Absolutely best decision I ever made considering my employment.
One of the best decisions my Lovely Wife and I ever made was going into business for ourselves. Less money and more work, at first anyhow, lots more work and lots less money..... but far greater levels of satisfaction.
Good luck, it can be very challenging, trust in God and treat every customer as if they are your Grandma, you'll be fine.
Got laid off from my old job, created a website that helps people find jobs. Now I have over a million users. I know how it feels man. Best feeling in the world. Congrats man!
Do you have a link for your business? What's the typical cost for this? I love going to the movies but now they're all closed. Would be great to get that experience at home. Even have screenings with friends and family.
I think theaters are mostly a dead business with the advent of cost effective 70" television sets. Theaters are not going to project with the contrast ratio and black levels of a good OLED and no human eyes can tell the difference in resolution. The audio balancing is very poor in general for movies but theaters take that extra step into going above 120db just to make sure you have to wear earplugs in a theater. This pede picked an excellent career. A well tuned home theater system with seamless controls and well done integration/wiring captures that old time movie magic. Who knows, there may even be a market for Made in the USA products that he could squeeze for extra cash installing specialty hardware for patriots. There may even be a market for "dumbing down" television sets so they can be hooked up to a small form factor computing unit for all sorts of cool streaming and library options. The bug bit me hard a few years back when 4k became a thing and I haven't looked back. Drive-ins are still awesome. Cost is usually in the "if you have to ask" category but you can roll your own "okay setup" for normal people budgets.
Advise from someone that has started a few businesses. Know what you are doing well. Then "ready, fire, aim, fire, aim, fire, aim. Don't wait for everything to be perfect, just do it.
Dude same here, not doing installations but I got a job doing editing for tech materials. I really enjoy it and see the HUGE need for it. And I can work from home, making more money now than I have ever before.
Don't let the MSM get you down and believing that the economy is over!
Trump is YUGE on people doing what they love. He spoke about it at one of his Space Force speeches. He encourages everyone to seek out what they love doing and to pursue their passion because that's what they'll be best at.
WAY to Go man! I had to do that back in 2009 because of that flipping guy what is his name? Big Mike? no the other one you know, you know the thing! I promise you pedes that you will never have a "(J)ust (O)ver (B)roke, again if you are ever able to strike out on your own and here is a little gem for you, there are people everywhere that have struck out on their own and they seek out people like us when they make a buying decision!
Unless they are elderly or immunocompromised I won't even consider it. If they make a convincing case, I have a clear face shield that allows me to breathe.
You will. With that work ethic you will get to this level and many more. I work with plenty of entrepreneurs and the often refrain I hear is "I never thought this thing I started would get so big."
The reality is no one I have ever worked with has ever said "I became an entrepreneur so I could learn about tax laws and accounting." Just dropping a seed to grow over time.
This is really great news! Welcome to the cool world of audio video. If you need any help or advice on getting clients that want your service, please reach out to me. I'd love to help you and I work exclusively for the AV industry.
Smart move! Nothing like American ingenuity! Even this damn “pandemic” is bringing out the best in Americans who are willing to pivot and find other ways to support themselves. We’d hire you tomorrow if you were near us! My husband is a fantastic old school mechanic and diagnostician for anything that has a motor, gears, moving parts but neither one of us knows much about a/v or computers. You picked a good business to start as everyone is stuck at home and TVs are the main entertainment for the foreseeable future.
Dallas. And not as many as you think. 90 percent of the people wearing masks do it because they don't want to fight with Karens. I got no time for the other ten percent.
Congratulations. My niche dried up overnight. It is always amazing when we are pushed to the brink & open the door to greatness waiting on the other side.
I am confident the lessons I am learning now will be an even greater asset when we start up again.

Yet they repeatedly say trickle down economics don't exist and don't work...

I got some meat you can smoke
Damn that's awesome. Being your own boss is the American Dream.
I did it 16 years ago. One of the smartest decisions I ever made.

Nice, any business where you can set your own schedule and still get family/ vacation time is good. Good luck with your venture.
Congratulations! Very proud of you for finding a way to do what you love. Wishing you great success in all you do.
this post makes me happy! the american dream, american ingenuity and pride in a pede's go-gettedness!
Dam, that sounds like fun. Love playing with expensive audio lol.
I was actually trying to talk my son into starting a business just like this. Wow.
I’ve work OP! Good luck!
How do you go about doing that?

I started gardening. Somehow I ended up good at it. I’m thinking of just saving up to buy a lot of land out in the middle nowhere. Haha
This is exactly what I do for a living, home automation. Lucrative and fulfilling. Congrats pede
Merica.
WOW! Rock on Patriot! Keep us posted!
Omg I would love to have Dolby Atmos.
I cannot afford your services at this time lol however

Went into a cali capital city stereo shop. Estimate was $700 more than i expected. Not a mask in the place. I happily paid just to see smiling faces.
We need to get a list going of 'pedes that are doing this kinda thing. I need a bunch of stuff, and I wanna buy it from you guys.

You are awesome.
Make sure to get a good tax structure. My rule of thumb on LLC/S-Corp Election is:
Net Income of:
<50K - probably not worth the compliance cost
'>50K - <100K - about break even with compliance cost
'>100K - 100% worth the effort and if your accountant tells you differently they should be fired
I hope to make enough money to learn what all that means.
You will. With that work ethic you will get to this level and many more. I work with plenty of entrepreneurs and the often refrain I hear is "I never thought this thing I started would get so big."

spez: my post was about self-employment tax

I have 7.1.4 and love it. I did it myself, but my new projector needs a good ISV calibration.
It has been used a whole lot during the pandemic.
Congrats on the new business!
From Adversity Man Crafts Oppertunity!
Good for you! I've been wanting to break out on my own, but don't know what I could do that anyone would pay for.
Someday ill figure it out though.
Good luck! I'm hoping to start my own business here soon as well! Wish you nothing but the best!
As a contractor I will tell you that some people will ask that you put on a mask when you go in their house.
Don’t know where you live, but many customers will expect/want you to wear a mask when working in their home.

Let me know how it goes pede. Me and a friend were talking about doing this very thing. Good luck I hope it goes well.
Awesome!
nice work
