He is goofing on Obama's statement. I do have some questions since that looks like an AR pistol and that is what I am looking to build/buy: 300 blackout subsonic home/perimeter defense. Suggestions for the build or contrary suggestions?

Depends on your experience putting together lowers. If you have the basic armorers tools which I'd consider pin and punch, tap hammer and castle nut wrench plus the desire to get in there and assemble those functioning components then I would recommend that 💯 over buying a complete lower receiver.

If you're a bit more advanced than that you can play around with upper assemblies but that is where I (usually) prefer to go with a complete assembled piece... there are so many out there you will have ALL the options. Pay attention to barrel manufacturer/length, and see what weight buffer is recommended for that to run smoothly.

Choose your optics set up and trigger wisely. I also like to run my ARs with an extended bolt release, this one is a Phase 5 (ebr v3), can't recommend those enough!

Thanks. No experience at all so the AR pistol will be my first and given the price for some of them I want to build it out right the first time. Any manufacturers you recommend and any you would avoid? I think I would prefer to build from parts rather than get a complete weapon so I can optimize the build.

I wouldn't avoid any, people talk smack on lower receiver manufacturer's but they're practically all from the same forge.

Parts are different, they are all very unique but they're so simple it's hard to fuck up. So, once you start parts shopping just pay attention to all the reviews you will find for the part you are looking at from each manufacturer and just let those steer you.

Brownells.com has been helpful to me for many years they're practically an Amazon for gun people, but you can find parts and reviews elsewhere too!

First build depending on what you think you may like for a trigger , if you're okay with a run of the mill or middle of the road trigger just use whatever comes in a parts kit but DO buy a lower parts kit. They have "enhanced" lpk's too they MAY be worth it depending on your choice.

You can get basic armorers hammer tool on Amazon or your local gun supply retailer, you need that castle nut wrench too and a pin punch kit can help you avoid some of the more frustrating parts of putting a lower together.

Finally, this part no one tells you, shit is spring loaded to a T. There are some parts that may shoot out the first time you try this and pound you in the head. That "oops kit" I mentioned is available because... springs, detents (you're not going to love those), minor small parts can and do easily get lost often and for everyone.

Other than that it is all so much fun and can be very addicting so well best of luck!
