Nice AR. I just got one just like that.

Thanks!

This is the first one I have owned myself, hoping I made a good choice!

Definitely. I got a NJ approved one without the muzzle flash and it works great and good price. All Rugers are working man's guns, reliable and affordable compared to some brands.

Before anyone says it, yes I am looking for a new optic :)

ShartMaster 6 points ago +6 / -0

For an inexpensive option, the Holosun is hard to beat; I prefer my EoTech in that area but it's at least twice the cost. As far as scopes go, a lot of people like the Steiner P4 line of optics. I've never shot one of those, but the glass on my Steiner T5xi-3-15x50 is crystal clear.

No hate, just love.

Thanks ShartMaster!!

I'll check those out. I cannot decide if I want to go more of a red dot or a magnifying scope...this "acog" is a 3x which is a good inbetween.

Was thinking about dropping the dough for a holo+magnifier combo.

That’s a great rifle, good choice. Not sure what your optics budget is, but the Sig Romeo 5 is an excellent budget red dot (approx $100), and the Holosun 510C is also great, though a bit pricier (approx $300). On my other rifle I’ve used a Primary Arms 1-6 LPVO scope which was a good budget option (again approx $300) and have since upgraded to a Vortex PST 1-6 which is absolutely fantastic, a great value for the money (approx $600).

I love this community! Thanks man.

I'm going to check these out. I'll tag you in the update post.

Can confirm Romeo 5 is fantastic for the money.

I love the acog sight. It's what I was issued in the service.

This one is a bit of a knock off. Going to try with it first, but I am not confident it will hold zero.

But I appreciate the encouragement fren!

ShartMaster 2 points ago +2 / -0

You're very welcome.

Before you finalize your decision, decide what role you want to set your rifle up for. For CQB, red dot/holographic sights are king. For mid range, LPVO's are the way to go. Vortex's new offering is a 1-10x first focal plane optic and a lot of people are raving about it; I just dont have that kind of cash for that setup.

Whatever you finally decide on, remember to go out and train. Set aside money so that you can attend at least 1 full day class, and practice, practice, practice.

Try covering the objective lens and using the ACOG like a red dot and see if that works for you.

If you want a red dot and you're on a budget you can get a holosun 407c as a cheap RMR alternative and mount it either on top of the ACOG or at an angle for close-in shooting. LPVOs are cool, but they're much heavier and not as durable as an ACOG.

I love red dots, I just want magnification as well. For me, occluded eye aiming works as quickly up close as a red dot as long as I'm not shooting at weird angles, which, to be fair, could definitely happen in real life. It's nice having a red dot as well though as a backup sight.

Go with the Nikon P223 scope. Probably the best budget scope, that is basically a premium option, you can get.

Hunterscrackbaby [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

oooooo That is a gorgeous scope...so many choices...I'm sorry wallet

itsSoop 2 points ago +2 / -0

Holosuns are pretty good and reasonably priced. I have one on my AR, which I built last month. Although, if you’re anything like me and kinda want the EoTech, but don’t want to spend the extra money, just get the fucking EoTech. You’ll save yourself money in the long run when you eventually buy an EoTech.

brassmule 4 points ago +4 / -0

How many purposes does that rifle have?

3
Hunterscrackbaby [S] 3 points ago +3 / -0

Right now?

1...

To look badass for all my frens on TD.W

Soon?

To break off the rust on my trigger finger and protect the homestead from commies, Marxist, and violent joggers.

2
brassmule 2 points ago +2 / -0

It's just a joke about the MPR, that's all.

Most ARs are only single purpose but the MPR is M U L T I PU R P O S E

I need a ar. I have been looking to buy one. Just cant figure out what route I want to go.

1
Hunterscrackbaby [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

Just get something.

Like 95% of parts are compatible. In my research, Ruger and Colt are solid. But anything 5.56 and decent quality can be made better. But get that weapon in your hands sooner rather than later. You can swap the upper to be cqb, medium or long range to suit your needs.

Just get something in your hands. I might need you at my side if SHTF. 🇺🇲

I have the MPR chambered in 350 legend. Sexy gun, props to Ruger!

2
FearDaNazgulz 2 points ago +2 / -0

Just a heads up, I work at a gun shop and we've had to send quite a few back for either the bolt getting stuck after someone fired a round or the breakdown pins being too big/holes being too small.

1
Hunterscrackbaby [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

I appreciate it.

I will say the pins seem reeeeeeally tight.

And the bolt is tight as well. I've never had a rifle without a round fired thru it, so hoping that's a factor of newness.

Also, it sounds like you have a badass job!!

2
FearDaNazgulz 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yep! Although it's been pretty crazy lately lol everyone is buying guns and ammo..

1
Hunterscrackbaby [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

The people at my shop said the same thing.

Said some people were bitching about the background check as if it was their fault...

Get yourself a commission based pay schedule my man!

I find it strange to take reading advice from a geriatric commie's poo bag...

But I will definitely pick me up a copy of Crime and Punishment. Thanks!

F451 is my favorite book. The best subtle redpill in this time.

Might I recommend to you Animal Farm? Really great introspection on the identity politics and similar bullshit.

My leaky friend, this week feels like it's going to be a week of winning!!

That poem was stellar.

Thank you for the recommendation!

Battlestation looking good, man. Cable management top notch.

2
FuckPlebbit 2 points ago +2 / -0

Did you get a great deal on it? MPR's from what I can tell are pricey as hell right now, even though I do quite like em, I don't like them enough to pay a grand for one lol.

1
Hunterscrackbaby [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

I was around $7-850 after shipping, background check rifle costs.

For the record, everything was super smooth except background check. Over 3k in line and about a week wait. Guy in the store told me after 3 days I could have gotten it if the check is in pending.

And a sexy Trijicon ACOG... (or is that a clone? No shame, I can't afford a 1600 dollar ACOG either..)

It's from my grandfather.

Who was in 'nam, and then an undercover, and then a supreme badass.

It has a ton of history in the family and I love it. It's clunky, kicks like a fucking mule. But it is dead accurate, never jams and holds enough .45 rounds to take out any Antifa hopped up on bathsalts. I love this pistol. 1911 is the best sidearm imo.
