I underestimated how far they were going to let this go. I was hoping common sense would have prevailed but I'm really starting to think that there are no more grown ups left on the Democrat side. They will gladly let the country burn so long a they get to govern the ashes.

Pede those of us who have been to war or who grew up in war torn or communist nations have been ringing the alarm for a while. This WILL get worse before it gets better so please, if you're reading this and you're downplaying how serious it can get, please heed our warnings. Many more will die. It will start to get personal. Prepare yourself now and leave nothing off the table. Best case scenario it blows over and you'll never have to defend yourself by doing these things, worst case scenario your life and your family's life depends on it-
Arm yourself and your family.
Learn how to operate said arms, and make your family learn, too.
Get in shape.
Have emergency water and filters.
Have an emergency food supply.
Have a designated rally point for your family and/or tribe.

I was referring to the fact that you said you underestimated them. I get that you learned your lesson, but I'm trying to tell you to stretch your imagination a bit. Like the Rambo line- You don't know how black a man's heart can be, but I do. If you underestimated them then that tells me you only think you have an idea how bad this can get. The hardest thing to grasp in war is just how easy it is to dehumanize your enemy, and the lengths men will go to to see their death. It happens on both sides. I've seen the bodies of little kids who were raped in front of their parents then had their heads chopped off while the parents were forced to watch. I don't rule anything out about the blackness of a man's heart.
I come to you as a friend to question your own naivete, and to impart unfortunate lessons I've learned. I'm glad you've learned but this can get so, so much worse and that is a lesson Americans have forgotten in the relative peace of the last decades. Its a huge disconnect.
Nothing is off the table. I've made that clear to family and friends. When (not if) shtf, I've said you can either rally behind me and help because I am willing and fully capable of doing the very dirty work that will need to be done to survive it... Or you can fuck off. There's no kind/easy way forward. I'm only civil and polite and not generally a shit stirrer because I'd like to stay out of prison (having worked in one for 5+yr in my mid 20s).

People tend to attribute their own values to others. Subconsciously whether they know it or not. You operate within the box of your own experiences, and for many, extreme violence is so far outside the box that they have trouble imagining anything much farther than the limits their values and experiences tell them about people. I have no doubt that when you're surrounded by hardened criminals thag veil is lifted. These people are not operating with anything anywhere close to normal peoples values systems.
