Ruger is the best for the dollar with excellent customer service. Dan Wesson is the best value of the high quality 1911s. You can spend 3x as much, but you run into diminishing returns very quickly.
Whats your budget? I've got a Springfield TRP, which IMO is the best 1911 under $2500. You'd need to move up to an Ed Brown or Wilson Combat to get a nicer 1911.
Here's my old Colt 1911. Made in 1913 and on one side it says US NAVY, and the other United States Government Property. My grandfather carried it aboard their B24 during WW2. Wish i could find out who owned it during WW1.
This is my Colt custom shop series 70 with Novak sights and real ivory grips. John Browning was a real American patriot.
