There are quite a few outdoor ranges in the area that are private and you can only get in them if you know the owner or take one of their classes, which are often pretty lame.
Must be nice to have an outdoor range that lets you shoot normal ammunition :/ Every single range within like a 2 hour drive of DFW bans FMJ rifle rounds.

There’s a massive outdoor range on Ft Hood. I don’t know what a civilian would have to do to get access, though. It’s probably a few hundred yards.
Lonestar range is awesome, though. I hate indoor ranges with a passion. Plus when you’re done you can go pick up some of the best BBQ in Texas!
