Show us how to operate some of the equipment in a functional manner and provide us with some missing pieces of the puzzle to assist with reverse engineering some of it and well give you lots of copper, hydrogen, etc. Whatever useful natural resources they wanted. They showed us how to turn some stuff on, maybe basic maneuverability of some of the craft. Nothing major. Gave us just enough data to be credible, but peppered with misinformation that would lead to breakdowns or even lab accidents. It took them 20 years, but they finally figured out they were being played and shut down communication and base access.
Yeah, the story was at least more believable than Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo being Italian brothers

It's entertaining how the UFO community has its own canon with various factions that argue over the details, like if the Greys are benevolent or not.
Humans really are awesomely creative, a whole narrative and back story exists for something we really have no idea about or even if it exists at all.
