Young people are always going to be liberal. They want old republicans to die so that they can start the liberal revolution... but by the time old republicans die, the liberals will have shifted to being conservative.

Hasn't always been that way. For example, the "Reagan youth" of the 80's. Reagan was even with Carter for the youngest voters in 1980 and won them in 1984. Bush won them in 1988. Bush the younger split youth vote with Algore in 2000. I'm pretty sure Eisenhower won youngest voters in the 50's, in 1968 Nixon & Wallace together won more youth voters than the Democrat Humphrey, Nixon won the youth vote in 1972 (first election w/ 18 as the voting age) over McGovern.

2004 is the turning point, when youth vote moved decisively and consistently ( as born out by subsequent elections) to the Left & Dims. Prior to 2004, there is a very long history of Republican candidates being very competitive for young voters. The phenomenon of youth being reliably in the hip pocket of the dims is a 21st century development.
