Did she run unopposed? That's common in local elections.

Plenty of judges are elected.

What's stopping conservative minded folks from running for judge seat in their counties...or at least fielding a candidate to provide an opponent? (lack of an active Republican committee and apathy)

Judges are the most boring part of the ballot. Half the time I can't even find information on them online. And when I do, it's like: "Here's a picture of me and my dog. I'll tell you nothing about my beliefs. Vote for me."

In a lot of areas it is common practice or even law that judges cannot or do not campaign on issues for elections. They just talk about credentials and try to get their name out. The idea is that they aren't supposed to do anything besides interpret law and at a local level it is actually relatively important that they try to hold to this because their can be costs associated with having decisions overturned.

  1. They already have jobs
  2. They know they're unqualified AND they have a sense of shame.
