They're even losing the sane left. I consider myself myself a liberal and voted for Hillary, but I cannot stand for their authoritarianism and violence. I'm voting Republican for the first time this year because my community needs its police.

When do you think this started happening? The moment I realized something was wrong was Spring 2016 when Milo Yiannopoulos came to my university and he got canceled after intense protests. I don't like him or his views, but how can I own him if he never gets a chance to open his mouth? We need to be able to voice ideas, even REALLY bad ones, to figure out what is best.
I believe it started when the left fully embraced cultural Marxism. There’s no defending the crazy shit they try to push now. You simply can’t stand on a stage and argue that strength is weakness. Hence “hate speech”, mass censorship, and the incompatibility with western freedoms.
There’s no losing argument if your followers don’t even know there is an alternate view challenging them. “Peaceful protestors” come to mind.
The concept of "hate speech" really grinds my gears. I have an unpopular opinion: I don't think we should even have "hate" crime laws because its a type of thought policing. Individuals should be punished for their actions not their thoughts.
But if you don’t call them hate crimes how will anyone know they weren’t love crimes?

I guess what I mean is that I lean a little left on economic issues. For example I would support environmental programs and regulations that clean up our air and water. I would like to have a debate and find compromise with people who worry about the impacts of such policies on the economy and tax payer. The leftists and their allies in silicon valley and mainstream media are making this impossible.
