How about I roll you down to the 'protest' with me where we're going to sing some protest songs, toast marshmallows and air our grievances in a peaceful manner?" It's a gathering of people running around endorsing violence as an end to their means and he was bringing a gun to join up with them. This also wasn't their first time going to one of their riots.

She stayed with him even after he said cops basically weren't human and cheered on some being attacked and blinded by lasers. She's probably a very bitter, vengeful and evil creature.

He was more or less using her as a human shield and a prop to legitimize his participation, from my perspective. He may not have consciously made that choice, but I see that going on. Nothing about his social media posts suggests he was a kind soul that chose her because of love and selflessness.
