You’re overthinking it. UBI recipients are not receiving earned money and it’s not part of a voluntary agreement. It’s forced by the state and its one-sided—it’s theft disguising itself as Utopianism.
Even the title of it is oxymoronic. Income is defined as a gain that derives from labor or capital (shortened from the Merrimack-Webster Dictionary). UBI is derived from taxation, and it’s disbursement is not predicated upon one’s level of labor or investment, rather one’s lack thereof. It’s welfare under a different bame, and we already have (a broken system of) welfare. Secondly, even under the loosest definition of income, it will not be any sort of income for the vast majority of Americans. When the state takes $2, but gives me $1 back, that is not income, it’s a net loss, it’s a tax, it’s a grift designed to hide the fact that politicians are yet again buying the votes of the underclass with the money of productive Americans while pretending it benefits everyone. Thirdly, because most Americans’ “basic income” in this system will be a net loss, it is not “basic income,” it’s negative income (i.e. a loss). Lastly, because of this, it is not “universal”. If it was, everyone would at least receive positive income, but that would be impossible, just like Communism, but too many people learned the truth about Communism, so the powers that be renamed it “UBI”.
If you want money, work for it and invest your earnings wisely.
