Correct me if I'm wrong, but the main drive behind why prices will drop is that market forces will be freer to do their thing given the he added transparency to the end consumer. No way anyone on the left is going to want to acknowledge that...

Here is a really good podcast about healthcare. The lady who represents the industry is VERY well-rehearsed. She'll have you believing Big Pharma is wonderful.

I know it's not a spicy meme or a funny one-liner, but if you are the kind of pede who wants to get educated, I would recommend this one as a great start.

More outrageous is it's what Bernie was promising to do, if elected. I haven't seen a single peep over it in the media. Have you? Prescription drugs are gonna be cheaper. Great news, right?

I still remember being red pilled about big tobacco when I asked one day "If tobacco is bad then why is it legal" and I was told "Because the government is making millions off tobacco"

19
rooftoptendie 19 points ago +19 / -0

Whether or not something is "good" or "bad" in this particular sense should not be the standard of whether or not something is legal. Or else say goodbye to hot pockets, whisky, and oreos.

11
KekistanPM 11 points ago +11 / -0

Indeed. This was however when I was probably in my early teens if not younger, and I thought "If we make all the bad things illegal then there will be no more bad things."

4
SPEZ_CUPS_CCP_BALLS 4 points ago +4 / -0

Good point. However, weve seen what basically is the legalization of heroine has done to California

4
rooftoptendie 4 points ago +4 / -0

thats why I said "In this particular sense"

12
HockeyMom4Trump 12 points ago +12 / -0

MN sued big tobacco because it is so bad, yet still sell it and weirdly, during the shutdown, tobacco stores were essential and got to stay open...hmmm...weird

7
deleted 7 points ago +7 / -0
3
FireannDireach 3 points ago +3 / -0

If you want to go down a serious rabbit hole, go research the tobacco trials, and dig into the documents they had to make public as part of their settlement.

Then look into the billions the states are depending on, from tobacco taxes. And then you'll understand why a pack of Marlboros is $13 or more in New York.

They just push the shit that will keep you on living not the shit that can cure you. Big pharma is evil. If big oil patented everything they could that would make cars energy independent for a century what do you think big pharma does to miracle cure drugs?

What's the incentive to cure high blood pressure in a six month treatment when you can feed someone pills to keep their blood pressure down for four decadea

6
Noxapalooza 6 points ago +6 / -0

Gotta disagree. The entire pharma industry is a corruption. They’ve purposely forced out natural remedies and forced people to take exorbitantly expensive poison that needs five other poisons to counteract all the side effects. Big Pharma’s job has to convince us we are all sick and need their pills. It’s easier to control sick people.

4
Imransgarage 4 points ago +5 / -1

Seems like you don’t know much about big pharma.

They are a criminal organization that survives by paying payouts to our politicians.

Piss them off even more. Get your states to buy in regional co-op sharing agreements for drugs. And when pharma says "no, we refuse." Ask them why they sell to every other country in the world with bulk prices.

I am not surprised that this is being used as a fake facts attack against him. I didn't even read any news on these executive orders until this morning. And when I saw mention of them, the first result on Google was the official white house announcement and not news on what he had signed. The media glossed over this action majorly, now they're going to use it against him.

Ask yourself this... why would Big Pharma care enough to make commercials about them making more money off seniors? It's money in their pocket (if it were true, of course it's not)

If they cared so much about seniors, they could just... you know... drop their prices without needing the president to do so

This is a major victory for Trump and one that he can smear in the Democrats faces for years to come. Lowering prescription prices has been a Democrat talking point for years but they did nothing about it when they had 8 years of free reign under Obama. Big pharma is probably shutting their pants because they can no longer fleece the American people for exorbitant amounts of money.

45
mnguy12000 45 points ago +45 / -0

Yep I remember when Obummer was elected my Lefty Dad was CONVINCED that the prices would fall with his Obummercare. LOL now, with the person he hates more then Bush, has done it. LOL

Brucesky420 10 points ago +10 / -0

I think this already went into effect? Went to pick up one of my wife's prescriptions yesterday and it really was about half what we've been paying for it. I even went back and double-checked my previous receipts. She has another one to refill tomorrow, so I'll try to remember to report back.

Edit: Her latest refill was not lower than before; however, this medicine only costs just over $1 for 30 days so I'm not sure they would go lower than that, lol.

Well the vehicle insurance claim of “save 50%” or more is different. It’s a truth that’s very misleading. Because of course anyone who gets a higher quote won’t switch, and even those that get a slightly lower quote probably don’t want to deal with the hassles of switching and loss of benefits tenure gets you at most insurance.

So the only people that switch are people that save a lot of money. So the average is true but it’s biased towards people who say a lot of money.

They probably couldn’t even advertise savings if they just said the average quote difference, because they are probably equal most of the time, that’s why it’s only savings of those who make the switch.

If you think they are not happy with HCQ, check out Statins!

The biggest grossing drug bar none in the world are Statins. The drugs sell for $100Billion dollar a year. Do they prevent hear disease? No Do they lower the risk of heart disease? Yes. To the extent the Pharmaceutical industry claim? No.

The absolute risk reduction when taking Statins is around 1-3 %. The NNT is around the ballpark of 100. The end point postponement is 16 days, and that's for secondary profylaxis.

It's a complete fraud.

Trump's EO allows people to import drugs from the EU where the drugs are being sold at much cheaper prices.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/executive-order-increasing-drug-importation-lower-prices-american-patients/

Section 1. Purpose. Americans spend more per capita on pharmaceutical drugs than residents of any other developed country. Americans often pay more for the exact same drugs, even when they are produced and shipped from the exact same facilities. One way to minimize international disparities in price is to increase the trade of prescription drugs between nations with lower prices and those with persistently higher ones.

I've stopped reading the news and have been going straight to the primary sources. It's amazing that 99.999% of the news reports do not give us the actual story (the EO) but rather their spin.
