This is only partially true. They actually don't want violence any more than we do, but have been conditioned to ignore it, given that it is not expedient to maintaining their delusional interpretation of reality.

The moment the groupthink sways the other way, they'll all claim that they never supported the riots either. Of course they did not, it would be insane to support that. Everyone knows this, don't ever question it. And thus it was so, the end.

My family supported the riots on a Wednesday and denounced them on the following Thursday. Why? Because the governor of Minnesota made up that bullshit about "white supremacists" starting the riots. My family knew that rioting was wrong, but they needed some fan fiction bullshit to alleviate the cognitive dissonance and permit them to condemn the destruction.
