Very first reply cuts right to the chase, too:

"You are threatening a lot of power bases; Big Pharma,Big Tech,Mainstream media,Democrats, possibly intelligence agencies, see what you are up against? And that's just locally. Internationally, you have the Chinese, the EU and a myriad of other countries. Stay safe and secure Doc!"

China can shut down the American economy every time they release a virus

This is the threat. The precedent has been set that government can shut the country down completely for public safety. The threat is not foreign, it is domestic. We have way more to fear from Ds and deep state than we do from China.

kestral 41 points ago +41 / -0

Didn't a bunch of retards at the CDC want to declare racism a public health emergency? If the government can shut down anything they want in response to a public health emergency... you can see where that's going.

First economic shutdown.
Then Rent strikes and demands for unemployment extensions.
Then a communist new deal.
That was plan A. Probably abandoned at this point.

Plan B--
Biden "wins" the election.
Trump says "not so fast, you cheated, I have proof".
Trump refuses to leave office. Legal battles ensue.
While legal battles go on, Biden declares himself the true & legitimate president, and sets up a government in exile in Seattle or LA.
Not much happens for a few months.
A few months into 2021, states start to secede from the "fake & illegitimate" USA that Trump is running, and join Biden's "real" USA.
Then John Titor's prediction, a few years late.... Civil war which leads to nuclear war.

I have no idea where to find John Titor stuff. Hard to find anything other than nostalgia articles with summaries (with varying degrees of accuracy).

Basically, he predicted a civil war in united states in 2013. Sides would be cities vs rural populations. Russia and China smell weakness, and get cute, which leads to limited global thermonuclear war. All our cities get nuked, leaving the rural population the civil war winners.

11
slimcoat 11 points ago +11 / -0

I've been thinking about this lately, and while it seems that our side hasn't decided to fight, it's because these people are at a war with their own neighborhoods... Democrats attacking Democrat cities filled with Democrat officials. Should our side really even get involved at this point...? Let them destroy themselves for now, I think.

15
SordidPontification 15 points ago +15 / -0

This is an interesting point, and I think you're right in calling out that we ought to consider the long term outcome from this.

Because it's flatly obvious to anyone with more than a room temperature IQ that the left is, perhaps for the first time in decades, responding as reactionaries rather than having any sort of strategic goal in mind.

What I mean by this is probably best summed up by their plans. For example: We know they want to take away guns, right? But they also decided that the first thing they need to do (and are actively doing right this minute) is to defund the police.

Think about this. There is no reason this is something they should even be considering at this point, which tells me that they're behaving more on knee jerk response to external stimuli than strategically thinking about outcomes as they have for years.

The left has, for years, placed significant effort into controlling things like education and the schools so they could produce people either dependent on the state or so consumed by leftist ideology that they have no capacity for independent thought. Of course, perhaps this was also a strategic mistake, because these are the same people who are largely rioting and destroying everything.

We do need to do something, eventually, but remember: Never interrupt your enemies when they're making a mistake.

I think this is a particular point that was totally lost on Milo Yiannopolous a while back. He was upset that conservatives were just shrugging and happily letting the cities burn. He (wrongly, IMO) assumed the left would successfully pin this on us by way of our inaction and largely neutral response. I think it's backfiring on the left, because they own this.

They own the destruction of their own cities. They can't get out of this no matter what happens, because no matter how much they blame President Trump on national television, the people in the cities know who was proudly proclaiming "let's defund the police" just a few short weeks ago. They know who was telling the police to stand down while their downtowns burned.

Possible. The other possibility is that they have succeeded in their takeovers of education and media and this is the outcome of the constant decades of demoralization and what we're seeing is the desired outcome.

Chaos, destruction, revolution, splitting the country in two, and we will see the grand finale this fall when they refuse to accept the election results and declare Trumps government illegitimate and begin to secede from the US.

So far they're pretty successful because they know we're decent people who just want to be left alone and live in a Thomas Kinkade or Norman Rockwell painting. We speak softly but put away the big stick, because that's what the good guys do. They know it and count on it. I think there's truth to that quote about strong men leading to good times leading to weak men leading to hard times. We just assume it's the "gibmes" being the weak men, but us "silent majority leave me alones" are too. Things have to get much worse and hopeless for decent people to start mustering courage to replace the complacency.

It involves reclassifying every single Social media company as a PUBLIC UNITY

I think that's not true.

What they're looking at is the safe harbor provisions under the Communications Decency Act (section 230) which defines a platform versus a publisher. It's been a point of contention for a while.

Leftist lawyers say you can't do anything about it. Most people suggest that reclassifying Twitter et al as publishers (rather than platforms) means they're suddenly responsible for all the illegal content on their platform, in addition to many other ills.

I don't think there'd be much value attempting to classify Twitter et al as public utilities. It makes FAR more legal sense to strip their section 230 provisions.

Even the hosting companies are turning against us. Next the ISPs will start cutting people's hard lines so their home servers go dark. Better call Elon Musk for access to Star Link lol.

4
mango20 4 points ago +4 / -0

This really worries me. The spirit of the argument for Net Neutrality was that the ISPs wouldn’t be allowed to do this, or to throttle you to the point your website is inaccessible. No idea where it stands now. I agree that it shouldn’t be managed by unelected bureaucrats at the FCC, but I believe Congress should pass a law mandating that ISPs must be common carriers to the extent that they can’t turn you away or censor you for free speech, if this isn’t already a law.

8
PropagandaWizard1984 8 points ago +8 / -0

Don't quote me but ISPs may be classified as utilities and thus can't cut service unless you are violating the law. Nazis and KKK can't have their power or water shut off just for political ideology. Keep in mind this is Clown World now and new rules may apply!

2
BillionsAndBillions 2 points ago +2 / -0

They'll just "un-bank" you so you cannot pay your ISP. Easy.

2
PropagandaWizard1984 2 points ago +2 / -0

Good point, censorship proof money is the answer. Bitcoin as of now is the most secure and most censorship resistant currency in existence. Unless you want to pay your bills in gold and silver.

2
BillionsAndBillions 2 points ago +2 / -0

I wonder if a crypto-currency backed by a precious metal is feasible. I guess the physical reserves would be the attack vector for that.

1
PropagandaWizard1984 1 point ago +1 / -0

You are correct. Tons of physical gold requires tanks and attack helicopters to protect. Bitcoin is protected my math and computer science.

3
BillionsAndBillions 3 points ago +3 / -0

What if StarLink evolves into a parallel global network for free speech as the ISPs start cutting service to wrong-thinkers, and eventually refuse to route traffic from StarLink's network?

2
PropagandaWizard1984 2 points ago +2 / -0

Star Link probably doesn't have the bandwidth to handle current internet traffic. Lets just hope it doesn't come to that or we might all be screwed. I don't want to pin all my hopes on Musk either.

It's difficult to take a site seriously when it's done with Squarespace, Wix or any of those drag and drop platforms. For something this important, they should hire a real web developer and host it themselves. There are plenty of based web developers out there.

SPEZ: Looks like four people with crappy Squarespace/Wix. sites have checked in to downvote. Learn to code. Basic HTML/CSS is a breeze.

10
theultimatesean 10 points ago +10 / -0

While I agree those sites are garbage and I hope they go out of business, they're still wrong.

4
TheThreeSeashells 4 points ago +4 / -0

There's no argument that they're wrong. They should go out of business simply for being crap products.

6
AngryCanary 6 points ago +6 / -0

I've solo-developed websites with more traffic than thedonald in PHP and MySql. If you said this a few years ago, I would have agreed (minus the self-hosting part, which is a bad idea for almost everyone with a serious website).

For basic websites where you just need to show information, sell a product, etc. site-builders have become annoying good. 98% of the population can not hard code a generic website better than a site-builder for static, generic websites. Now, if you need to build an application online, then you need to actually learn how to code.

That said, It is hard to find a quality host. The vast majority are either factory farming users on over-utilized or outdated equipment, and would be thrilled to get rid of any single customer which utilizes their time or attention. Or, they are giant tech oligopolies of the likes that are instigating cancel culture to begin with.

1
TheThreeSeashells 1 point ago +1 / -0

The issue is they know nothing about design, layout or even navigation. It's easy to drag-and-drop crap here and there, but they end up with an unusable site. They often cram everything onto one page because they don't even understand how to create multiple pages or the importance of doing so. I've seen even basic websites with very little content that were garbage simply because they didn't know how to organize what they had into something usable.

Also, without basic knowledge of HTML or CSS, they're left with whatever boring crap they get out of the box. I've both developed and consulted on websites and quite often it results in redeveloping some piece of garbage someone tried to put together with a builder.

SPEZ: I think the bigger problem here is they're creating a very important website that is likely going to be visited by thousands of visitors a day. The builders aren't for that. The builders are better off for photos of grandma's quilts.

I do agree with the hosting issues. GoDaddy, 1and1, HostGator, etc. are the names everyone flocks to. There are plenty other places to host however. Even some abroad that won't give a crap about their politics. It's not easy finding those, which is another reason an experienced developer can come in handy.

5
AngryCanary 5 points ago +5 / -0

Knowing a little HTML and CSS doesn't fix those problems for most people, it makes it worse. You can't fix bad taste, and half-finished websites with little content is not an HTML or CSS issue. Also, a lot of web designers now do little more than configure site-builders for people who can't turn on a computer, and bill a couple thousand dollars. After a designer is finished with it, it still needs to be easily maintained and updated, and nobody is going to go through the trouble of coding a content management system from scratch for a webpage designed to host static information.

The developers which can actually build a working full-stack website from scratch are far outside of the budget of most people, and for a generic webpage the difference between that and a modestly competent drag and drop website is not going to be noticeable to 80% of visitors.

they're left with whatever boring crap they get out of the box

The alternative to cookie-cutter design is mySpace 2004. Idk if you're old enough to remember those days, but most people have no business exercising their creative aesthetics when it comes to making a webpage. The amount I despise bootstrap cannot be measured, but I'd rather most people have boring websites than broken ones.

1
TheThreeSeashells 1 point ago +1 / -0

Knowing a little HTML and CSS doesn't fix those problems for most people, it makes it worse.

It makes them realize those platforms aren't very good and that, if they want a real site, they probably need help.

Also, a lot of web designers now do little more than configure site-builders for people who can't turn on a computer, and bill a couple thousand dollars.

Those aren't web designers. Those are liars with a lot of time on their hands who are stealing people's money. I've literally heard jaws drop over the phone when I tell people how their crappy site was actually developed after they paid a thousand dollars for a free template, copy/paste job.

After a designer is finished with it, it still needs to be easily maintained and updated, and nobody is going to go through the trouble of coding a content management system from scratch for a webpage designed to host static information.

They're not looking hard enough. There are people who will maintain it, host it, update it and take care of the headaches for a reasonable fee. That's not something for grandma's quilt website or photos of your stamp collection. If you're running a real business or organization or something as important as the information in the OP, shell out the money and get it done right. We've now seen the consequences of what can happen when you don't. I've helped a LOT of people who would rather pay a small fee than deal with the builders and the hassles involved.

the difference between that and a modestly competent drag and drop website is not going to be noticeable to 80% of visitors.

You'd be surprised. I've seen sites that go both ways and the difference is noticeable in many cases. Particularly once the layout and navigation issues are fixed.

most people have no business exercising their creative aesthetics when it comes to making a webpage.

No. And those people are eventually going to destroy their "builder" site because they screw up even simple edits. I've seen people screw up something as simple as a bulleted list.

I'd rather most people have boring websites than broken ones.

I can't count how many times I've seen the "builder" sites result in both.

That's one of the few reasons I can see someone using Wix/Squarespace. You don't need navigation, many graphics, it's not something you need to spend a lot of time developing since it's mostly copying/pasting text, you won't get a lot of traffic and SEO isn't an issue.
