People of the ancient Mediterranean world were a pretty mixed bag (honestly, in most of Europe, N. Africa, and W. Asia) -- still are. You can find blondes and redheads in the Middle East through Afghanistan; brunettes in Sweden and Scotland. This was the case in historical times as well. This is likely as the result of pre-iron age migrations and the like -- the Eurasian and N. African landmass appeared to be the site of a lot of human population migrations.

Egypt not only didn't use slaves to build the pyramids (they were regular citizens and it was a kind of civic duty), but Egyptians weren't black. They were actually much more European looking than they are today as the area was colonized by the Sea Peoples, Greeks, and Romans. Nubians came up every now and then but didn't have much of an impact on their genetics. Then finally the Arabs came in and much ethnic cleansing was had.
Also, you can't point to a single country that didn't employ slavery in one way or another. Serfdom was only different from chattel slavery in that a person was tied to the land rather than a specific owner, however the person who owned the land basically owned the people. But comparatively speaking, they were probably never that genetically far apart -- both come from the same stone age groups that initially came into the area. R1b is the common haplotype for both populations. R1a is the most common once you get east of Germany (with I1a in Scandanavia); east and south of Italy, J becomes more prevalent (it appears in Italy as well. So, I would consider I and J to be your real demarcations.

Egypt not only didn't use slaves to build the pyramids (they were regular citizens and it was a kind of civic duty), but Egyptians weren't black. They were actually much more European looking than they are today as the area was colonized by the Sea Peoples, Greeks, and Romans. Nubians came up every now and then but didn't have much of an impact on their genetics. Then finally the Arabs came in and much ethnic cleansing was had.
Also, you can't point to a single country that didn't employ slavery in one way or another. Serfdom was only different from chattel slavery in that a person was tied to the land rather than a specific owner, however the person who owned the land basically owned the people. And unlike chattel slavery, serfs were regularly pressed into military service whenever the lord required.
