They had a lot of struggles with rural locations, but I'll concede that Russia pulling it off is the biggest flaw in that idea. I have difficulties seeing how the U.S. would pull off disarming and subjugating America's vast rural communities (especially if someone picks a random spot in the middle of nowhere and makes it their own), but you're right, the USSR pulled it off.

America isn't geographically fit for that kind of governance. In the cities, sure, but almost all of the nation is rural land.
