It's the corruption of the uniparty. They all have a hand in corruption and equally profit from it. Reps play the role of fake opposition and get paid, Dems move the country towards globalist socialism and get paid.

It's so corrupt at so many different levels it needs to be cleaned out top to bottom and a tribunal needs to investigate the finances of every politician and high ranking gov managers.

Long over due, I'm sick of these tech barons running amok and censoring conservatives. Please Mr. President just do it!

3
braveContrarian 3 points ago +3 / -0

i was sick of their power and lack of regulation before that even became obvious.

look at the tech market and aside from advancements that were bound to happen anyway, its become far more anticonsumer over the years, and more about controlling people in the ignorant mass market who were not the nerds and geeks that built the backbone of the internet and personal computing.

Instead of putting power in the hands of the people, as was originally intended, everything becomes a monopolized centralized service which they control. moving backwards back into the age of mainframes (the cloud) and terminals (dumb limited devices).

political control is only part of this -- it also goes down to monetization and how they decide to profit off of the consumer. in the past, we had software we can STILL USE TODAY in emulators.

in the future, if they have it their way, everything will be a service with an expiration date to keep you paying more for less. effectively charging for variables and preventing you -- the user -- from running easy-to-write basic servers to self-run services at home.

the cell phone crowd and modern user flock to discord, but some of us know its backbone is still IRC, and that IRC has freedom. freedom to run your own server/network and not be locked into the one service. we know it would be trivial to update the old model with new features without the control, but few want to do it because less profits.

freedom for someone else to compete if they want to do it differently.

makes it hard to monetize things that have no value in an economy with FREEDOM. and the business model of modern tech is all about control.

POTUS must act now!

13
Gulfdream 13 points ago +14 / -1

No, he's being very smart about this. He's allowing every other agency that has the power to do something to show their complicity, and allow them to continue in their inaction. Then when it's very clear to those who are watching that nobody intends to protect our freedoms, he will drop the EO. This is the best way to do it. Anyone who complains can be told "Congress and the FCC had ample opportunity to protect the free speech of all Americans online, and they failed to act, so I did it myself."

It's very smart.

3
BidensHairyLegs 3 points ago +4 / -1

Great in theory but we're running out of time. It won't help us to get rid of censorship two or three weeks before election. Minds will have already been made up by then.

Section 230 is part of a law and it only protects actual platforms. The issue is not the law, it is the DoJ or FCC or whoever that has to redesignate these entities as publishers.

Executive Order on social media can very simply be:

  • if you control content published on your website, you're a publisher and you have no platform protections (unless said content broke the law)

  • if you don't control content published on your website, you're a platform and have those protections

Do it.

5

3
brother_red 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yeah, ok - I see the distinction you are making.

I don't think we quite have that dividing line between admins/mods here, so we could still get classed as a platform.

I'm trying to figure out what legal standard will open up the big guys, but not fuck us up, you know?

I'm beginning to come to the conclusion that free market is the only answer.

Any site can censor as they wish, and the market will follow.

The government's role is to keep the established social media outlets from squashing upstarts.

For example, I tried Voat. I do not want to read "kike ni**er faggot" all day, so I quit going.

1
deleted 1 point ago +1 / -0
4
MSG1000 4 points ago +4 / -0

No you meant publisher. And when one is a publisher the government (I believe) has to be reasonable. IE if you took something down as fast as humanly possible once you found out you aren’t liable. Twitter and FB just let shit sit while sniping wrong think within five minutes, providing their auto-censors didn’t catch it immediately. Therefore Twitter and FB have a capability they aren’t applying to everything they’re supposed to, ergo they’d be in trouble and we’d be fine.

3
brother_red 3 points ago +3 / -0

Oops. Yep. Corrected.

And I agree with you.

4
booblitchutz 4 points ago +4 / -0

If twitter, reddit, failbook, etc weren't acting as publishers, then there would BE no need for .win

So its a .win/.win scenario

2
ThoughtExperiment 2 points ago +2 / -0
  1. Mark all active pre-platform accounts with positive karma as "trusted"
  2. Any sudden, large drop in Karma on any non-trusted account will temporarily disable that account
  3. After X number of such sudden large drops, the account is automatically deactivated.
  4. If the account is Y months old and has Z karma, then it is marked as "trusted."

This is basically what reddit is in the process of implementing. They have purged and banned a massive number of conservatives, and now all the default subs have implemented minimum account age/karma to post. Good luck maturing an account unless you're willing to pretend to be a leftist cuck for upvotes from leftist cucks.

Harsh truth but this is squarely on Trump and has been for years. It shouldn't be in a just world but you know it, I know it, everybody knows that nothing was going to change unless Trump himself did something about it. The buck ends at his desk. Trump is the "Tough Love" president. He's let this fester for 3.5 years. Yes 3.5 years of Trump's inaction, whether "building a case" or not. It's that long because we always knew nobody would do anything, they all want to shift responsibility/blame upwards. I'm of the opinion a slam dunk case had been made before he was even elected president.

6
Jaqen 6 points ago +6 / -0

Unpopular truth about this situation:

https://thedonald.win/p/GbkF5N2H/x/c/141s2Gewie

TL:DR - The social media services in question can not be rehabilitated. Government intervention to force them to be free speech platforms will not produce the desired result. They'll always be biased.

Accept this fact, and categorize these services as publishers. Stop pretending they are platforms. Vote with your feet and move to a service that actually treats you fairly.

4
3
Jaqen 3 points ago +3 / -0

You are a rockstar, thank you!

I'm attempting to both be impartial and not suggest an alternative service. I also dislike most all existing services for various reasons.

The ones you've compiled in your list are mostly very good though, bravo!

2
NoMoreLies 2 points ago +2 / -0

NP 👍🏻 If you find any more good ones, you can send me a message

4
booblitchutz 4 points ago +4 / -0

It's not a question of "free speech platforms", because they aren't a government entity. But if they are unevenly applying the rules users of their "platform" agree to that creates an editorial slant, then they are a publisher. Forcing them to be transparent on who they take action on, why and when will allow for oversight on this. Ultimately, they can still decide to mute, block, shadowban who they choose as long as they are doing it evenly in accordance with their platform's rules.

1
deleted 1 point ago +1 / -0
1
Jaqen 1 point ago +1 / -0

It is already very transparent who is and is not being censored, this much is self evident.

So going with your premise, Uncle Sam forces the service to "be more transparent about how it moderates content" or thereabouts. How is this accomplished? Does the CIA get access to the service's operational logs? Are the employees subject to realtime monitoring?

The point of these questions is to illustrate that this kind of nannying is untenable. It is either so totalitarian in nature that the service provider ceases to innovate due to the crushing weight of gov oversight, and becomes irrelevant - or it is half baked compliance auditing that can be danced around in an ever escalating game of cat and mouse.

To be direct: the service's rules, as stated in writing in the EULA, are that it can do absolutely whatever it wants with user submitted content.

The root problem is the laziness and incompetence of the services' user bases. The users failed to read the terms before agreeing to them, and then became too complacent to seek safer harbors. They've become addicted to the service, won't bother shopping around, and cry "unfair" when the very problems that they've been warned about for years, actually materialize.

These services can not be fixed by Uncle Sam. Leave the service if it sucks so bad (it does).

As the old saying goes, if the left didn't have double standards then they'd have no standards at all.
